Though my name is James Blumenfeld I have absolutely nothing to do with the "Blue Man Group"; much to the chagrin to an intoxicated audience member. People do tell me I look bluish however.
I did commission a genealogical analysis and found out that my family came from Germany in the early 1900's. "Blumenfeld" means "field of flowers". Before that the family came from Sicily where the name was "Campofiore". Prior to that we came from Spain where inconclusive evidence point to "Florencio". The family left Spain because apparently nobody expected the Spanish Inquisition. Earlier, things get sketchy but I believe we came from Egypt where things (also) didn't go so well.Located near Boston, Massachusetts my interests are primarily Stand-Up comedy and auto racing. I am also a ham radio operator which, while exceeding the MDR of geek quotient, is helpful in my auto racing perversions. (FCC = W1JIM). I also volunteer annually at the Boston Marathon, there's nothing quite like the exhilaration of watching a world class elite runner begging ME for a cup of water. Hey, funny is funny.
Stand-up is one of those things that I've always wanted to do.
When it goes well it is great for the ego and self-esteem, when it goes poorly, well then not so fulfilling. It gives insight into the depression that some comics seem to experience. Frankly, in that regard it is a lot like auto racing. Higher highs, lower lows. I find myself with the same thoughts before going on stage as I did when I was racing; "what the fucque am I doing here".
