Bettina Flater

Bettina is one of very few professional female flamenco guitarists in the world. What makes her even more of a rarity is that she is norwegian - in fact the first ever norwegian flamenco artist to work extensively in Spain.
There she has worked the spanish flamenco circuit, playing tablaos like the prestigious Casa Patas, as well as the best theatres in Spain, like the Albéniz of Madrid or the Teatro Central in Sevilla. She has played in the most important flamenco festivals in Madrid, the Suma Flamenca and Flamenco Pa Tós. In 2008 one of Bettinas guitar compositions was featured on the album Sangre Nueva, compilation album of up-and-coming female flamenco artists produced by Paco Ortega and released by Universal.
Bettina is also a singer/songwriter with a highly personal style. Flamenco rhythms, harmony and guitar licks accompany her singing in english. In her songs south and north meet in a completely new way.
Bettina's career has been extensive and varied. She works with the norwegian pop star Inger Lise Rypdal, and collaborated on her critically acclaimed album Ansikter in 2007 produced by Erik Hillestad. Her music has brought her to many corners of the world, from the moors of Devon (Chagstock Music Festival 2007 and 2008) to Casablanca (Morocco Tv 2m march 2008), from Lahore (where she played with the famous Pakistani Qawwali singer Sher Mian Dad Khan) to Birmingham (Emoción Flamenco 2007), from Trondheim (Olavfestdagene 2002 and 2008) to Stockholm (Nordic Flamenco Festival 2006). Based in Madrid since 2006, she is now collaborating both as singer and guitarist with the awardwinning spanish dance company Arrieritos (premios Max for best choreography and best show 2007) in their new show Europa, which premiered in december of last year.
Bettina can offer a unique concert experience with either traditional flamenco, her own songs, or a mix of both. She performs solo as well as in a number of constellations, ranging from traditional flamenco with flamenco singing and dance to her own group with flute, cello, violin and percussion. She is an exotic and exciting choice for any cultural event.
