Astute Music is run by musicians specializing in publishing quality compositions as recommended by their Editors, who are leading players and teachers in their fields. In only a few short years since its inception the company has gained a good reputation through word of mouth, has music on the Associated Board and Trinity/Guildhall grade syllabuses.
The Mandolin Editor is Alison Stephens and the catalogue was launched at the BMG Rally in Bristol in January 2006 and has since been gaining momentum. The aim is to provide well-edited, attractive, fun to play music for the mandolin across most levels and combinations. Currently they publish music for solo mandolin, mandolin and guitar, mandolin and piano, mandolin and harp, 2 mandolins and 3 mandolins. The catalogue is constantly being added to and samples can be viewed on-line at their website, www-astute-music.com.
Alison has carefully mapped out an extensive publishing programme which will be published over the next few years. These will include works by Vivaldi, Paisiello, Barbella and Calace as well as respected mandolin teachers and composers writing books of original compositions or arrangements that target a specific level of player. Lauren Scott, the Managing Director of Astute Music said, “We think it is really important that each one of our beginner books is really focused on targeting only one or two specific techniques per piece. That way a student can focus more fully on the fundamentals of their playing and progress well while establishing a good technical foundation. If at the same time they are achieving a repertoire of really accessible fun music to play then that has got to be a good thing for the mandolin repertoire as a whole.â€
