Michael Crown is tired. His has been a life of excess. Gang life caught him early and kept him late. It's in his blood. He's ready for a change but where can that be? He lives and breathes in a city that beckons him to a life of crime...any minute can bring the door being kicked in with FBI on the other side. So many crimes...so much time in.
Now the indictments are coming down and he's warned by a friend, who just happens to be an agent of the FBI, "Get out now, get out of town or you'll be guilty by association".
Time to go, but where?
"There's that girl, Kate, in Kentucky I met Online...what does she do? OH, she's a stable hand...might be a good hideout for a while. Country girls. Hmmm."
An easy mark and a bonus, Crown will be safely hidden in the Bluegrass State.
Kate Reilly is also tired, though by appearances, one would never know it.
A wealthy, aristocratic socialite, single mother of two; she lives a life most people only read about in magazines. Whatever she may desire in the way of possessions and pampering is there for the taking. She manages Kentucky's most elite horse stable, home to many past Kentucky Derby winners with a new one just waiting in the wings.
Sugar Pop; a three year old thoroughbred race horse destined for greatness.
Sugar Pop. Only Katie knows his name is in reference to her own father... ruthless business man turned politician, Hugh Holton, Kentucky's latest, good ol' boy, running for Governor.
Hers is a life of answering orders, completing the next task with excellence, protecting the family fortune and executing Hugh's wishes with absolute perfection.
Only Katie knows she's riding the fence between this lifestyle and the one she's always dreamed of: Freedom.
Freedom from the oppression she's had to endure since her mother's untimely death, freedom to laugh and play with her children before it's too late, but most importantly, the freedom of choice as far as her love interests. Just once, Katie would like to experience a love that isn't prearranged by her father. Just once, Katie would like to find life outside of Holton Stables.
But that isn't to be. Her obligations bind her to Holton. Her two kids deserve to be brought up in the same lifestyle she has always enjoyed.
Enjoyed? That's debatable.
What happens when Southern aristocracy meets Chicago street smarts in a head on collision? No more shortcuts.
Bluegrass Run is a modern day fairy tale based in truth; a story of oppression, redemption and love with a little bit of “mystical†thrown in for good measure.
