Adrian L Dunn, baritone
Adrian L. Dunn is a native of Cleveland Heights, Ohio and a versatile vocalist.The twenty-two-year-old baritone began singing at a very young age and is rooted in a strong musical background in African American music.Mr. Dun is a classically trained singer, but still carries a wealth of versatility. He was a winner in both the Bel Canto Opera Competition (Jr. Division) and the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) Voice Competition (Chicago District) in 2004, a finalist in the Cleveland Philharmonic Concerto Competition in 2003, and 2nd Prize in the Chicago Musical Association Voice Competition in 2006. He sang the role of the Postman in the American opera The Scarf by Lee Hoiby as well as the Arm Chair and Tree in Ravel's L'enfant et les Sortelege. He has appeared as a soloist with the North Shore Choral Society in Bernstein's Chichester Psalms and with the South Shore orchestra in Handel's Messiah recently performed at an event for former Secretary of State Madeline Albright. Mr. Dunn has also sung with the Chicago Symphony Chorus, Grant Park Symphony Chorus, and The Cleveland Orchestra Youth Chorus. In summer 2005 he studied in Novafeltria, Italy in the Centro Studi Lirica Opera Festival where he worked with Joan Patenaude-Yarnell, faculty member at The Curtis Institute of Music. In the summer of 2002 he attended Interlochen Arts Academy on full scholarship.Mr. Dunn is a varied singer/performer and conductor. He has opened for international hip hop recording artists "The Roots" at Indiana University Auditorium in 2005. He has appeared as a vocalist with the Rob Parton Orchestra. In the summer of 2006 he was musical assistant/vocal instructor to Mr. Walt Whitman and the Soul Children of Chicago while completing a study on Gospel Vocal Techniques. He served as assistant conductor on a tour of England with the Cleveland Heights Acapella Choir. He has also conducted many gospel ensembles and was fortunate to have worked with and learned from the late Dr. Moses Hogan. He is currently the director of the gospel vocal group One Inspiration Crew and conductor of Roosevelt University's Legacy Celebration Choir. In 2007 he was the program creator and director the HOPERA: a hip hop opera summer music program for high school students. He is also composing a hip hop Opera to expose new audience to classical music. He completeing his BM in vocal performance at Chicago College of Performing Arts, Roosevelt University where studies with Mark Crayton. He is currently studying with Pettri Salomaa at the renowned Sibelius Academy, Finland.I Always had a passion for music. Learning to make that passion my life.
