"Sometimes you have to lose yourself to find yourself."
Bein influenced at a young age by The Beatles, Beach Boys and other early rock'n'roll bands, Steve has always been into the classic rock. As he grew up he gain high respect for Eric Clapton, which was the beginning of him dreaming to be rock star drummer. He would spend hours listening to the drums in Clapton's music and then mimicking them on the drums. But it was when he heard and got into The Grateful Dead through his sisters at 15 that he realized that he was destined to be a rock'n'roll drummer. It also brought him out to California where he really got into all of the classics of rock, funk, jazz and oldly enough, bluegrass and country. Then it was the beginning of his dream where he started to play in many different garage bands at the age of 16. He also started to discover more modern bands, one in peticular named Phish, which he spent many bong acid tripping afternoons listening to. He didn't stop playing drums in bands until he was 20, when he packed his bags and went out to Ireland to spend some time in Europe. But without thinking it could happen, a year after being in Ireland he met Johnny Rayge through a mate and then through a magical process ITO was formed. During this time his brother would sent him out mixed tapes and cds of bands of this time, some which he really got into. Like Arcade Fire, Interpol, Clinic, Broken Social Scene, Pinback,The Shins and other great indie alternative rock. So through all the different music he has listened to, his taste and likes of music varies which gives him a unique style of playing the drums and gives ITO that solid rock'n'roll sound from the drums. Favorite drummers, John Bonham, Keith Moon, Billy Kreutzmann and John Densmore.
Conrado Coyote: Latin Leo Lothario (Lady Killer)
Influences: ITO's influences are vast and varied inclusive of all things experienced to, and being experienced in, the present.... a presentiment of fact, a disorganised fiction.....their sound is a blend of their mixed realities....all are alienated and yet brought together by their differences, their unwillingness and difficulties found in belonging and their lack of it....the sounds change, the sounds morph....I.T.O. spent their first few years just improving, as many do, they became intrinsically linked, flying through music , soaring on ghosts and angels...every show was a unique act of deliberation and disquiet, extra-ordinary ornament. They then spent several years struggling to record a sound, working briefly with a number of sound galvanisers...but to their woe the raw energetic eclectic madness they imbued their audiences with seemed effortlessly to vanish and abandon them at their time of direst need. The result , although marvelous and real in it's very being, always left a yearning, an insatible unsatisfied sensation, until now.....as I.T.O. buzz away recording in their secret hideaway and play and sing and create, as they struggle through the quagmire of real events, the transient ever-changing nature of physical, spiritual and metaphysical worlds they combine in order to realise that universal immortal, they live, and die, here.
It's time to be real with each other....Love, forget the superficial nonsense all round, dance, sing, be inebriated and intoxicated. Influence.
