Chase – Is a young, talented hip-hop/rap artist with intricate lyrics and a mesmerizing stage show that some artists today would not want to follow. This young rapper seems to have the formula to keep you coming back for more. And even then you’ll still want….more.Chase was born Leonardo Leon Cushmeer in 1982 in Chicago, IL. He rose to prominence as a song writer for local artists, started to appear on local mixtapes and was also a member of the hip-hop crew Elite. Chase is known for his superb writing ability; he first started turning heads off a demo tape recorded in a friend’s living room. The tape made its way to the streets and the internet, where interest in Chase grew. Chase is an example of how making street music for the people can still turn heads. “The streets are my home, I represent the voice for the less fortunate people of Chicago” says Chase. As a pure songwriter cut from the same cloth as Biggie, Big Daddy Kane & Nas, the 24-year old Chase honed his abilities on tracks all over his native Chicago. He has yet to lose. “I’ve been writing all my life,” states Chase. “Writing for me was just like how some people play football for the fun of it. It’s an everyday activity.” “He’s very young and hungry, he can write songs all day,” states Trak Surgeon.Chase started taking rap music seriously in 2001 through his conviction. Chase skipped meals to battle inmates from different cell blocks for fun while turning to his family economically to keep himself afloat in prison. After being challenged by Track Surgeon to take it a step further, Chase began writing songs for local acts in the Chicagoland area. “I was writing song for rappers and r&b singers in jail every week for commissary, there were some good artists, but they were horrible writers to me,” states Chase. “When I realized that I had a swag from God, that’s when I started taking this (music) seriously.” Chase’s songs on the mixtapes caught the attention of one of the biggest producers in Minnesota. “They flew me out to Minnesota and I recorded a few songs for a demo, but it didn’t amount to anything as far as getting a deal,” states Chase. “It did, however give me studio experience.” While in Minnesota, Chase’s buzz became strong with the help of The Track Surgeon. “Next thing I knew I was doing shows for 2,000 plus people,” states Chase. He started networking and became a regular act at “400 Bar.” Chase then began doing shows all over Minnesota. While in Minnesota, Chase began a movement with his flamboyant lyrics and a delivery fresher than the average pizza man’s, he started a trend called “Bang ‘Em Out.” “A lot of people thought I was crazy at first, but when they seen the kind of exposure and the doors that started to open for me, they jumped on the bandwagon,” add Chase. Chase then moved back to Chicago to work on his album. “I knew I needed natural elements to pull this project off, so I hollered at my guy Track Surgeon who owns Wyl Biz Ent and told him we needed to make history.” While recording “Mr. Bang ‘Em Out,” Chase realized that there was something very unique about the way his music felt. “I remember we started recording this song called “Rydin” and that’s when it hit me. I started naming my music Mid-Dirty, the Midwest and the South.”It’s been 8 months since the debut of “Mr. Bang ‘Em Out,” and Chase has sold over 7,500 copies throughout Chicago. “My initial intent was to hold my music and collect more material to present to a label, but I had to leak this one out to establish myself as a songwriter. It’s crazy, I never thought my record would get accepted like this,” says Chase.
