All music written, performed,& recorded by miss Amphionelle
I am not somewhere in between. I am closer to being at both ends at the same time. Everything I am, I am likely the inverse. That's my Nature. I was born in Tucson, Arizona & given 3 months to develop a thick skin before we moved to the blizzard-happy town of Sioux Falls, South Dakota. After a short hospitalization from the pneumonia which ensued, and a stint of wearing bandages on my hands to keep from scratching the side effects, I developed an affinity for a broad-ranging spectrum. We visited mum's family back in AZ often. Went on heaps of road trips actually- rotating the tape deck between four different tastes in music. Then & now, being unable to put my hands on things and feel things out for myself recalls feelings of illness and helplessness. I put my hands on EVERYTHING!
I got my first guitar when I was 13. I started writing my own songs from the get-go. I was now in a rural town isolated from most everything except for Nature, the radio, and my guitar (Blair Witch Project was set just a short drive away). Started my first band at 16. At 18 joined the Baltimore band Hedspace (later named Makara) and sang with them for years. After letting go of another drummer and with college becoming more demanding of my time, we eventually parted. I became increasingly detached from my guitar... I was listening to an increasing amount of formulaic and gimmicky music. I wasn't challenging myself artistically or musically. I was inert. I needed to move.
I found home. it's in Brooklyn. It's up when you want it. It's quiet and empty enough to stake claim on the open air at night. Its close. Its far. Its pretty. Its ugly. There's no lack of talent and inspiration. What I like most is you dont have to settle for anyone else's idea of what, when, why or how. Really...that could go for almost anyplace, but I hadn't listened hard enough to hear it resonate as loudly as I allow it to here. I stayed in for 2 months (and then a few more)straight to see what kind of music I'd create devoid of anyone else's input- to trust my own voice.
