the dune series, the foundation series, anything by kurt vonnegut or robert cormier, chronicles of narnia, she's come undone by wally lamb, vampire chronicles and beauty trilogy by anne rice, anything by sherri s. tepper (really--some of the best writing i've ever read!), walt whitman, john milton, upton sinclair's the jungle was excellent.
