About Me

La Habana
Catia has lived in many countries of the South. This explains her interest for warm rhythms, warm as the countries of her childhood. The sea and her travels, from which she draws inspiration for her lyrics, are never too far behind...
Catia studied vocal jazz with private instructors and in various vocalist/instrument workshops. She explores many techniques with singers such as Sophie Charbonneau, Marie Vallée and Catherine Bastarache. She takes lessons in piano accompaniement with Sylvain Daigneault and jazz improvisation with Jacques Carrier (Université de Montréal). She then joins a jazz camp where she takes part in the vocal ensemble headed by jazz vocalist ans clinician instructor Madeleine Thériault, attends the workshops of drummer and percussionist Pierre Tanguay and saxophonist Franck Lozano and sings in the combo directed by double bass player, Normand Guilbeault. She also took part in Ghostcafé, a musical directed by Sophie Charbonneau and trumpet player, Maxime Saint-Pierre. Catia also had the privilege of being accompanied by many musicians, namely guitarist Marc Villemure and trumpet player Bill Maher, while attending Catherine Bastarache's vocalist/instrument workshops. Even though she studied jazz, Catia embraces many musical styles and loves to merge them into a soft, atmospheric feel.
The daughter of an Acadian, she inherits his fascination for the sea and open spaces, his love for cultural diversity and foreign languages, having lived in Latin America and in North Africa for a few years.
