About Me

I'm slightly deranged, even more so since I moved away from Vermont. I think I hide it well when I'm working, but sometimes it slips out after hours. It's ok, there's a little crazy in everyone :)
I have a lot of paradoxical beliefs, but that somehow doesn't bother me. This enables me to be liberal, yet retain some of my conservative roots. I am a very spiritual person but with a diverse, broadbased belief system. I believe in socialism, yet understand that it never really works when implemented. I also hate discussing politics.
My long term goal is to get as far off the "grid" as possible. I would like to end up either throwing manure around on an organic farm somewhere or living in a tiny little village in Guatemala. Somewhere that isn't governed by corporate America. Someday I will retire and run away to cook at La Iguana Perdida with my brother. Although that involves listening to "Billy Jean" on repeat.... hmmm.... perhaps this bears rethinking. I created my profile with Myspace Layouts+

My Interests

Cats, most animals (although I have mixed feelings about ankle-biter dogs), Great Vermont microbrews, cheap-ass PBR, dive bars, gothic, fusion, and industrial bellydance, a long walk with a good cigar in hand, people with amazing ink, Guatemala, learning Spanish, Bombay Sapphire, great local bands, alternative lifestyles, cooking for friends, consumer supported agriculture, eclectic spiritual views, Tengwar, the list could go on forever.

I'd like to meet:

Old friends who haven't forgotten me Those who love Guatemala Anyone interested in fusion and gothic bellydance Someone else who can write Tengwar Really anyone who is interesting and slightly off the map

Music:

Top 3: Counting Crows, The Cure, and Live... closely followed by David Bowie, Gin Blossoms, Del Amitri, Garbage, Toots and the Maytals, the Grassroots, the Jayhawks, Jethro Tull, Tori Amos, Collective Soul, the Killers, Semisonic, Dar Williams, New Order, Lorenzo Goetz (RIP),Probably Vampires, The Mamas and the Papas, Abba, Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, The Last Dance, VNV Nation, BT, i:scintilla, 80's rock and power ballads, some "classic" country, just about anything trance/techno except that progressive crap, old school goth and industrial, and I've left out a bunch because who really wants to read through a list of 100+ artists.

Movies:

Three favorite movies: Chasing Amy, Labyrinth, and The Dreamlife of Angels. Other movies I enjoy include: Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown, Six String Samurai, Run Lola Run, Pump up the Volume, Igby Goes Down, Spirited Away, Donnie Darko, Love Actually, Happy Endings, Go, Gone in Sixty Seconds, Mystery Men,Dodgeball, Bring it On, The Italian Job, Secretary, Trainspotting, both Kill Bill movies, and The Sweetest Thing. There are more, but that should give you an idea. I do avoid horror films at all costs! The only one I ever liked was a subtitled Japanese one. Every other one gives me weeks of nightmares.

Television:

Scrubs, The Simpsons, Grey's Anatomy, The Office, Pinky and the Brain, Alias. I try to avoid TV as much as possible and I will go on record as stating that I HATE Sex and the City!! Or at least strongly dislike and despise.

Books:

Two Favorite books:"Farewell to Arms" by Hemingway and "The Chess Garden" by Brooks Hansen After that it's easier to name the authors I enjoy reading: Haruki Murakami, Douglas Adams, Murray Bail, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Jane Yolen, Connie Willis, Peter S. Beagle, C. S. Lewis, Tolkien, Wendy Holden, Chaim Potok, Pete Hamill, Gregory McGuire, and Jane Austen, for a start. I also have a strange obsession with Winston Churchill. My brother is trying his best to get me to read some weightier tomes. I've been making my way through some of the writings of Nikos Kazantzakis. I also enjoy reading poetry on rooftops, with my favorite poets including W.S. Merwin, T.S. Eliot, James Merrill, Galway Kinnell, Rilke, Audre Lorde, Dylan Thomas, and my own brother (http://coprinus.blogspot.com/).

Heroes:

In no particular order: my entire immediate family, Douglas Adams, David Bowie, techs who always ace jugular sticks, anyone who can do 3/4 shimmy WELL, People who bankrupt themselves for their pets, any band who can make me want to die, writers of excellent poetry, anyone who speaks more than one language, the nuns who climb the wall at the annual SOA protest, Winston Churchill, people with alternate lifestyles of any kind, boys in eyeliner, organic farmers...

I've been re-reading Yeats. It's been about 9 or 10 years since I've seriously read anything by him. A shame really, as I'm quickly rediscovering old favorites.A few to think on..What Was Lost  ...

Say no to rejection

I realize this may be a little repetitive, but I feel it's important to chronicle the microdermal healing process. Maybe it will help me when I get the wild hair that prompts me to get more! Honestly,...
