Shanetta: Singer/Songwriter

Shanetta Denise Sewell was born in Los Angeles, CA in 1984. Her parents grew up rough living the street life and as a result Shanetta was put into the system at 2 years old. Although she didn't have to endure the heartache of bouncing from foster home to foster home Shanetta still lived a hard life. Adopted before she could even really speak, Shanetta's name was changed to Shanetta Sylvia Little and the drama of her childhood began. Shanetta will be the first to say that she never really had a childhood and from an early age a determination to be better than her circumstances blossomed.
Always bright and articulate Shanetta grew in her ability to absorb what her eyes captured. As a child her anger, frustration, hurt, and tears were never allowed to show so it was only a matter of fate that she picked up the pen and paper as a release. One of five adopted into chaotic life, Shanetta watched as each of her sisters found ways to cope with the life they were given from suicide attempts to running away to not speaking all together. Shanetta had a lot to say--and someone was going to hear it.
Singing came natural to her but the art of books, poetry, and writing in general became a passion she grew to need. Like air, or water, Shanetta took to her words to rise above her pain. A growing faith in God and desire to better than those who weren't good to her pushed her love community service and outreach to children. Most people never know what pain she's endured because Shanetta has learned to find joy in all that's around her.
"I couldn't be as strong as I am today, nor as focused, nor as determined if I had a normal life. In the strangest way I have come to be thankful for all the trials in my life. I'm different. I'm a true survivor. I have a purpose. Most people never get to say that."
Fast forward to 2007, and Shanetta has matured into her artistry. Her love for good music, lyrics, passion in prose, hip hop, rnb, and everything that makes black beautiful keeps Shanetta focused. Her academic goals behind her, she moves swiftly to her dreams of singing and writing songs. In an industry dominated by males and less-than-classy females, Shanetta waits patiently in the wings for her time to set things on fire--make changes, inspire the youth, and bring a positive focus to a genre that's said to be fading everyday. Back in contact with her mother, degree in hand, a home in the warming Orlando music market, over 100 songs and poems to date, and talented local artists just phone calls away, 2008 is poised to be the year NettaB makes giant steps to becoming who she was born to be.
"I just want to make good music that touches people the way my musical influences touched me. Music saved my life. It gave me a reason to live. My destiny is to share the gifts that God gave to me. In my heart of hearts I know I have to share my gifts. Singing for people scares the shit out of me sometimes but I can't escape it. It's a part of who I am. Thats how I know I was put on this earth to do this. I am Shanetta. One name power like Madonna. I am The Untouchable Diva. But above all, I am just a regular girl who's first love is music. Who's passion is the written word. Who's heart beat is a melody in itself."
