About Me

When these profiles ask me what I'm into I've gotten in the habit of simply saying, "Art, philosophy and world domination"- I'd say "Plans for World domination" but that adds a certain pipe dream element and I've found the one recurring element in my biography is the blurring of the line between pipe dreams and reality.
Just like how the national anthem tries to sum up patriotism by recounting a tiny, yet important event, in history, I'll fill in this "About me" section with one tiny event from my history- After graduating from college I worked in Hollywood for a year or so before I got a job offer from a yo-yo company. Yoyoing was a hobbie of mine and a book I wrote about the science of "High-end" yo-yo play was about to be published when this company started fishing for people to work as demonstrators for them. At the time I was a PA (gopher) for the writers and producers of The Simpsons with the goal of making movies and I asked the advice of one of the lead writers on the show who might share a little wisdom with me. He gave me a few insights and reasons to take the job and the one that I distilled out of the conversation and remember to this day is the single line, "You can't tell stories if you haven't got stories to tell."

More screwdrivers than screws (short, contemplative)

There should be a word for when things mirror grander themes in life. I think Jung probably had a term for it. I had one of those today. A friend calls me up on a little gadget he got; a Nokia 770. It...
