In June of 1980, Gee Ness was born Aaron Gurevitch in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. At the young age of ten, Aaron moved with his parents to Lexington, KY to invest in a family venture. His culturally diverse background allowed him to sponge many different forms of music while visiting relatives. His mothers West Indian roots, stemming from the island of Trinidad, would have him encounter the sounds of soca and calypso and artists such as the Mighty Sparrow, as well as traditional East Indian music. His fathers side, Jewish, didn't offer Aaron much in the form of music other than holiday and celebratory songs and those from the classic "Fiddler On The Roof". However, it was his father, Marc Gurevitch, who gave Aaron his greatest musical influence.
A veteran drummer of 16 years in R&B, jazz, fusion, funk, blues, b bop, rock, big band, swing, and Latin (Cuban and Brazilian), Marc played in several bands throughout North America and England that were unable to capture commercial success. The brilliance in which he played earned Marc a memorable honor when legendary funk soul band, Tour Of Power, spotted him at a show while touring and invited him to join in a few jam sessions. But shortly after Aaron was born, his father made the decision to give up drumming to focus on supporting his family. Only a few months before making the decision to leave for the states, Marc took Aaron to his first concert to see a true legend, Marc’s greatest musical influence, Mr. Miles Davis. It was an awing experience for someone so young but one that Aaron would never forget. Aaron would quickly adopt an appreciation for music, particularly music that had soul, and the soul music of his generation was a movement called Hip Hop.
It was upon hearing and being inspired by artists such as Rakim, LL Cool J, A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, The Notorious B.I.G., Jay-Z and Common Sense that peeked and sustained Aaron’s interest in Hip Hop. The lyrics, the ability to make words rhyme, the delivery, the feeling and the simple ability to recite a verse from one of his favorite artists was enough to captivate him. Only after viewing an episode of In Living Color, where comedians Jamie Foxx and Tommy Davidson performed a spoof of the group Jodeci’s hit “Latelyâ€, did Aaron make an attempt to write a song. Rewording another Jodeci hit, “Fiendin’â€, and crafting it in a similar comedic fashion just for fun, Aaron wrote his first song. The sensation was so gratifying that Aaron continued to write until it consumed him. He earned the nickname “Gee†during his freshman year of high school when his basketball coach couldn’t pronounce his last name. As the name caught on and spread, it soon became his name of introduction as well as his rap alias. Gee took his talent for writing to new limits when he recorded and released his first solo album, Infinite Ink, in 2000. Locally known, now legendary, Lexington producer JK-47, whom he met through a mutual friend in 1999, produced the album. After it’s release, Infinite Ink earned him praise and had listeners encouraging Gee to pursue a career in music. In 2002, Gee teamed up with Damon Davis to co-found JusFam Entertainment. He also added the last name Ness, borrowed from the Untouchables’ Elliot Ness, and the legendary mythical sea creature the Loch Ness Monster, the name was also chosen for its similar cadence to the word genius. In 2004, JusFam released its debut album, All In The Fam, a compilation featuring JusFam artists Gee Ness, 3D, KY Riders and others, with production from Lexington’s hottest producers Tre & Pooh, Fabian & Jeff for 2Ninth Productions, and JK-47.Gee Ness is currently working on his solo project, which will include singles "Sweaty" and the back seat classic, "Let's Ride", with appearances from Black Coffey's J.
