About Me

Ashley Deekus (b.1987) is a percussionist/composer living in the Philadelphia area who has been engaged in multiple percussive arts spanning from Classical and Jazz, to World, Traditional, and Improvisation. Her jazz/improvisation mentors have included Tony Miceli, Khan Jamal, Pauline Oliveros, Katt Hernandez, and Matt Moran. She has also studied some Dombek(darbuka) with Joe Tayoun, Brazilian Pandeiro with Michael Stevens of Alo’ Brasil, as well as Bomba, Plena and Afro-Cuban Bata. Her current endeavors focus more on Classical percussion with Patricia Franceschy (recent grad of The Curtis Institute) as well as West African Ewe drumming with Dan Gorlin of Alokli West African Dance/Drums. She regularly performs with the Old Goats (Traditional Brazilian/Folk) and Alokli. In the past she has enjoyed working with artists such as: The West Philadelphia Orchestra, Dan Blacksberg, Skipp Heller, Neil Feather, Matthew Welch, Jack Wright, Evan Lipson, Dustin Hurt, Do Make Say Think, Broken Social Scene, Feist, Gina Fererra, Nicole Bindler, and Susie Ibarra.
