Right to Bare Arms represents politically charged, hardcore hood be-bop with a flair of dirty south grittiest. Their unyielding and unforgiving raw lyrics report the realities and revelries of street life in New Orleans, before and after Hurricane Katrina. All intertwined with a unique blend of militancy, history, party antics, and boom bap creating a web of Hip-Hop music reflecting 500 years of slavery pains.
RBA is composed of five bravemen: LX, J. Bahma, Pike Malvo, Huey P., and Nat Turner. All with varying styles and appeal. LX is the urban catalyst, his silver tongue delivery and thought provoking lyrics is a perfect contrast to his gruff voice. Jefasun Bahma‘s erratic flow patterns coupled with his precise wordplay along with a nonchalant demeanor leaves listeners pleasantly thirsting for more. The poignant content and laidback technique of Huey P. carries his audience to unprecedented heights. The mere mentioning of Nat Turner invokes the revolutionary spirit within rivaled only by the brash and bold historic poetry he makes relevant to today’s society. Pike Malvo “the dominant factor, fusion reactor,” as he once said, is human combustion on the mic. Malvo’s mysterious presents mixed with uptown swag and witty rhyme skills are quickly making him a fan favorite. Within the dynamic group of five, several sub-groups have intertwined to create a bevy of sinister music clusters: 2nd Amendmeant based in Atlanta and MRA (Movemeant Rebeliance Association) is the New Orleans team.
Due to the unnatural occurrence of destruction and displacement of black people in New Orleans, RBA has relocated, split locations, come together and separated several different times since the government planned catastrophe. But they have maintain recording putting out 2 mixtapes post-Katrina “MCMVI.5 RETRO REDUX” released in February 06’ and “MURDER CAPITOL MIXTAPE VOL. 2 (MCMV2),” hit stores exactly one year later. MCMV2 includes lyrical blizzards from, ATL’s Bowen Home grown, brash and bold, “off the dome spitter” Iceberg of Tre Pound. Who will soon follow with an Album Mixtape, "DIPLOMA PISTOLZ" of his own featuring his eerie hard-pounding production skills as well.
Before the storm, RBA was a fixture at exclusive hip-hop events and open mic competitions. Due to their popularity, collaborations, and affiliations at least one or all members have performed in some capacity as opening acts for Nas, Fugees, Big Pun, Pharcyde, Alkoholiks, Public Enemy, Ying Yang Twins, and Krs One. Having appeared on New Orleans’ video show “Phat Phat and All Dat” and Atlanta’s “What’s Happening TV” has help build a visual and musical relationship with their fans. The “Murder Capital” video has been viewed over 20,000 times on You Tube and myspace.com. Along with their participation in the critically acclaimed documentaries Underground Streetcar, and wtf: an okaymentary. Once said by a well-known New Orleans radio personality, ”They remind me of 95’,96’ hip-hop with modern day flair and swagger.” If a subject is out there they are not afraid to speak on it from Bush negligence in Katrina aftermath to strip clubs to everyday hood trauma to building better education for kids.
Since the hurricane, RBA has been grinding. Performing weekly at Atlanta, New Orleans, and Houston area venues keeping their name in the air. With three riveting mix tapes, and another banger in the works, a DVD documentary compiled with two music videos-- featured on the upcoming SKRATCH AND SNIFF DVD magazine--under their belt, RBA buzz is growing from the streets to the internet and back all setting up their long awaited album release slated for this year. Heavily influence by black nationalism and ghetto bravado keeps their music uniquely balance in a way never seen, heard, or experienced in recent years. Hailing from New Orleans serves as a connection to the world due the widespread displacement of disaster evacuees. “We got people in every city now!” the scruffy face J. Bahma exclaims, “even Alaska!” Having formed a LLC versus just being another group looking for a deal, has allowed RBA to gain vast connections and relationships within the music industry.
The album entitle “Street Revolution” is coming together like a double-edge sword of superior social consciousness and average everyday urban lifestyle. Covering all angles of disenfranchised life in America. RBA should have no trouble delivering a classic with production talents of such stimulating beat makers as G$, KLJ, Khardiac, X.O., EL P, Tony C, Tre-pound, and Phantom. The lead single, “POP-N-ROLL” is a hypnotizing sick upbeat classic so powerful, the hook effortlessly forces listeners to move. Several other standout songs such as “Self-Preservation” produce by EL P, along the infectious “Fa Real Do,” and the wishful “More,” are perfect examples of RBA’s diverse catalog ranging from fastpace head-nodders to southern slowed screwdrivers.
The RBA movement is gaining momentum. Blazing a path never seen before with every step being measured only in forward motion. Stepping on any and every person, place, or thing in their way. Don‘t get stepped on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
