About Me
..I was born to an angel and a ghost. A typical black situation, sickle cell and a non-existing father. I grew up in a minister’s home, Rev. Granny! The only two things she taught me was when I leave the house, look my finest because I represent her and our family. Never let them see your weakness. Secondly, fear… and that started with the fear of God. I was raised by any environment that I could get my hands on. I reinvented my mother in the teaching of Sojourner Truth, Harriet Tubman, Maya Angelou, Toni Cade Bambara, Joan Morgan. I accepted my fathers to be, Marcus Garvey, Chi Guevara, Nelson Mandela, Malcolm X, Stevie Wonder. Like most, I believed Africa to be the place far away where only starving improvised black children lived. From grades 0-12, our history consist of 5 pages and two of them where on Martin Luther King Jr. Malcolm was made out to be a villain and if you sneezed then you missed Marcus Gravey all together. And even in the brief mentioning of him they never talk of how he unified black races of people all over the world and the Rasta movement he inspired. Gravey was simply a “very important man to the black peopleâ€. My most memorable teacher was Mr. Green, world history (1 semester long). When it came time for Mr. Green to teach on Africa he always made it a point to say, “slavery only existed because the African themselves sold their own peopleâ€. He truly believed that. Guilt will keep lies alive. Keep people ignorant about their history and you keep them enslaved. Emancipation of your mind and repatriation is a Must. Freedom is by curiosity and desire alone. When I leave this earth I want to go free.
"I freed 300 slaves, but I could have freed 10,000, ONLY if they knew they were slaves" -- Harriet Tubman
