Obertura grows as a band in the city of Quito, Ecuador in 1994. They soon propose a sort of non-traditional death metal which mixes the typical extreme sounds of the genre with more experimental ones. Originally formed in 1993 out of the ashes of countless bands from Latacunga & Quito, drawing influences from bands such as Death, Napalm Death, Morbid Angel, Deicide. They play in a lot of shows, toured and headlined all over the country.Obertura transcends any musical antecedents that have been acknowledged for the past in Quito. Their music here explores the outer-most regions of free compositions over-arching themes are morphed and mined through asymmetrical structures. Blending ground and shaking power vocals with Fabian Paocarina, attacking guitars with Nelson Rodriguez and Antonio Jaramillo and pounding rhythm with Igor Icaza. The band is ready to enter the studio. In 1994 wile they were attending the School of Arts in the Central University, Fabian Paocarina came up with the logo for the band and Ivan Cañar designed the ilustration the cover. They set in a local “semi-studio†in order to record ‘MORTAJA SOCIAL’ the title of the debut demo. The recording was made in two days, sadly produced and directed by Aulio Gelio. Nevertheless every song here takes on new musical hues and offers different ideas and perspectives, also plays along with Omar Ortiz then member of Necrofobia. This Demo which was released in Quito originally suffered of very poor Ecuadorian distribution. As a result, it was also sold out and it has never been re-released.Their Demo EP 'Mortaja Social' has been embraced by both the National and International media, with positive reviews in numerous magazines, fanzines and airplay on local & international radio stations throughout not only in Ecuador but also in Colombia, Peru, Argentina, Spain, Sweden and the U.S.A. consolidating the name of the band as one of the most interesting realities in the Ecuadorian music scene. However an upheaval in the line-up, triggered a change in course when Antonio Jaramillo and Fabian Paocarina left the band just prior to the release of Mortaja Social, The Rest of the members absorbed the instrumental gaps left by the reduced numbers. New members; David Arciniegas, Neil Pacheco & Juan Arevalo adopted bass, guitar & voice in time for the beginning of a new era “Enteâ€. Igor Icaza & Nelson Rodriguez have been active with an abundance of projects, performing in different bands like Sal y Mileto & Ente. Fabian Paocarina & Antonio Jaramillo are extremely busy on other areas as well. Many years have passed since Obertura, their demo ‘Mortaja Social’ concludes the recondite triptych they set out to accomplish where flux was not uncommon. Will they ever play together again? Only time will tell.
