Layout by CoolChaserMichalis Terzis - Biography Michalis Terzis ,was born in Axioupolis-Greece and studied piano and music theory at the Macedonikon Odeion of Thessalonika ( Theachers: K.Papadopoulos, D. Kelpanidis ) as well as in Athens with the Teachers A. Ainian and K.Chronopoylos. He started his musical career at 1973 by playing piano at the “Boites” ( small music theatres) in Plaka: Apanemia, Hesperides, etc.. below the Acropolis of Athens in the historical part of the City. There he presented songs written by Mikis Theodorakis, Manos Hatzidakis, Yiannis Markopoulos, “new wave” songs, as well as his own first compositions. He recorded his first music piece, “The Hymn and dirge for Cyprus “ in 1976 using the lyrics of the great Greek poet Yiannis Ritsos. Mikis Theodorakis presented the new composer Michalis Terzis and his work at a concert in “Panathinaiko Stadium” in Athens.The singers were Giorgos Zografos and the choir of Athens University. In 1980 Michalis Terzis recorded “Maniatika” a work of the poet Kyriakos Kassis, which contains traditional elegies and epic songs of Mani singed by Alkistis Protopsalti , Nicolas Mitsovoleas and choir. The France Hellenist Teacher, Jaque De La Carrier presented these songs in many performances in France. His work “Ancient Lyrics” was recorded in 1981. One of the songs “Nyktodia”- a poem of the Ancient Greek Lyric poet Sapfo- was performed at the “Agones Tragoudiou” in Corfu , directed by Manos Hatzidakis and gained the prize of - Efimos Mneia- of the Critical committee In 1983 he recorded a new L.P entitled «Oli ti mousiki mes’tin agapi vale » including his new songs ,with lyrics by the great Greek poet Kostis Palamas. ( He is the poet who wrote the lyrics of the “Olympic Hymn” with the music composed by Spyridon Samaras) These songs were first presented by the composer at the Theatre of Lykavitos in Athens, at 1984 by the famous Greek singers George Dalaras, Dimitra Galani, Eleftheria Arvanitaki, Dionissis Theodosis.In 1986 he created “ Nostimon Himar”, twelve Greek folk dances for a big orchestra of classical and traditional Greek instruments. This work was a great success in Greece as well as worldwide. The first presentation of this work were at Theatre of Herodou Attikou in Athens for the Greek Television , ERT. Michalis Terzis wrote the music for the film “ Limnos the Cherished” A film by A. Papadopoulos, which won two awards: The prize of the Thessalonica film Festival in 1988 and an award by the Greek Ministry of Culture ( Melina Merkouri ) In the same year he wrote the music for the documentary “ In the Land of Orfeas” (The myth of Orfeas and Evridiki) a production by ERT- Greek Radio TV and A. Papadopoulos. Text was written by Giorgos Farantos Proffesor of the University of Athens. This film won an award in the city of Asty-Italy. This sort film was presented also at the global committee of Poets in Luxemburg the spring of 1988 - ERT released the music and offered 500 LP,s for all members of the committee. In 1989 he composed the music of “ Altana tis Pargas”, a successful Television production by ERT and Kostas.Asimakopoulos ,the songs where singed by Glykeria and Kostas Smokovitis. In the same time he wrote the music for an other ERT TV production “ “My Greek Father” by Panos Glykofridis, with the actor Kostas Spyropoulos .. the songs where singed by Kostas Smokovitis. In the same year Michalis Terzis wrote the music for Dimitri Spyrou’s film “The Flea” a production for children and young people. The film –The whole work of the film - won eight international awards in many film festivals around the World : 1) ( 1988-1990 Best Europian film for children and youth. Honorable projection in Luxemburg under the auspices of the E.U and the E.C.F.A 2) 1990 Quality distinction by the Ministry of culture in Greece 3) 1991 1st award of the international Union of Cinema C.I.E.E.J in the 41st International Cinema Festival for children ,in Berlin. 4) 1991 Official Greek nomination for the best Europian film,in the FELIX European awards 5) 1992 1st award in the 8th International Children’s Cinema Festival in Chicago 6) 1992 1st award for best screenplay, in the International Festival of Belfast. 7) 1999 1st award in Balkan Festival of Sofia 8) 2001 1st award in the International Cinema Festival “Du Grain a Demmoudre” in Chavri of France,ect…He also composed the music for several ERT Television’s Documentaries in 1991 created by Giorgos Moulios and texts by Giorgos Farantos : 1)“Thrace: land of Orfeas and Dimocritos” 2) “Evros the River of the Gods and the Legends”As well as music for the documentary of G.Moulios “Cyclades” the harmony of Aegean sea, etc.This period of time he wrote some of his very wonderful songs singed by very well known Greek Singers like: Maria Dimitriadi, Stamatis Kokotas, Michalis Violaris ,Kaiti Chomata, Popi Asteriadi, Kostas Smokovitis, Kostas Karalis,Takis Konstantakopoulos, Nena Venetsanou, Babis Tsertos, Nantia Karagianni . Also:1)“The Flea” Album CD including the music of the homonymous awarded film by Dimitris Spyrou. 2)“The Songs of Makedonia” His work on Traditional songs of Macedonia, singing by Giorgos Bagiokis and choir. 3)“ Limnos the Cherished” The awarded music of the homonymous DocumentaryIn 2002 he started to collaborate with the “Greek Documentary Center” and Panos Iphantis- Tasos Birsim for the follows three Documentaries: 1) He wrote music of the Documentary “The Magic of Greek Caves” an International production witch was released worldwide by 40 TV stations including China ,India etc, in 12 languages.2)In 2003-2004 he wrote the music of the documentaries “Light, sea and Ancient World” A ‘Peristilon” –Greek Ministry of Culture-and Panos Iphantis, a Production for the World ( as a DVD) 3) Also music of the documentary “ A Trilogy: About the Sacred rock of Acropolis” Descriptive Historical and Cultural Documentary. 4) Also Music of the documentary ‘The Rion-Antirrion Bridge” The creation of one of the most admirable Bridges in Europe, which lings west and south Greece (Sterea- Peloponisos).Michalis Terzis had the opportunity ( from F.M Records) to arrange, conduct and re-record in the studio 36 great successful songs by Mikis Theodorakis, Manos Loizos, Stavros Kougioumtzis, Dimos Moutsis , Christos Nikolopoulos ,Michalis Daskalakis etc, singed by Stamatis Kokotas as well as Yiannis Kalantzis. One of the most important moments of his career was the presentation of his symphonic work. “The Hymn of Athina” with the yrics by Kostis Palamas in 1994. This symphonic work was performed at « PALLAS » by the Greek Television , Symphonic Orchestra ( ERT), choir of Kostis Konstantaras “Fons Musicalis” solist’s Maria Marketou- Giorgos Papas and director Andreas Pylarinos. It was an order by Mikis Theodorakis when he were Director of the Symphonic Orchestra and Choir of the Greek Radio Television ERT.Michalis Terzis has presented his work in many performances all over Greece and abroad. He started his performances in Greece in 1981 in the island of Crete at the festival of Kissamos, Kasteli “Nychtes Kissamou”. The same year he participated in the Festival of Ithaka. From that time he continues this very nice music trip until today, giving many performances in many festivals all around Greece. The first concert of Michalis Terzis in abroad where at: ”Congress Haus” of Vienna-Austria 5 March of 1988. From that time he has given many concerts around the world, the most important of them were: In Cyprus, Italy , Austria, Germany ,Spain, Swiss ,Egypt, Kuwait, Tokyo ,India, Singapore, Australia, USA .2) Performances in six (6) cities of Austria at March of 1988, organized by the Greek-Austria Union and all the income were settled for the victims of the earthquake in Kalamata. 3) Performances in Nine (9) cities of Swiss in collaboration with the organism of Coop, Mai 1998. 4) Performances in “ Comptoir Swiss ” 12-22 September 1998 5) Performances in Madrid-Malaga, Spain 13-15 December 1998 6) Performances in Berlin I.T.B also in Stutgard , Duseldorf, Frankfurt. 7) He participated in the festival “Antipodes”of Australia -March of 1990- giving six (6) concerts in six cities of Australia. 8) Participation for the “music of Asia and Europe” in Tokyo, Japan ,may 1992. 9) Performances in Singapore (Rafles}1992 10) Also Performances in New Delhi 1995 11) In the spring of 1997, Michalis Terzis performed as conductor of the Orchestra of Grigoris Bithikotsis in a concert in Los Angeles USA in “Wilshire Ebbel Theatre” where the Greatest Greek singer Grigoris Bithikotsis singed all his hits, songs of Mikis Theodorakis as well as his compositions. 12) August 1998 Michalis Terzis presented in the same famous Theatre of Los Angeles a concert with his Orchestra his music and his songs. All this period of time Michalis Terzis composed also music for the Theatre like : 1) “O Dilalis” writen by Michalis Burbulis , directed by Evgenios Spatharis and performed at the Festival of Ithaka. 2) “Peri onou skias” written By Direnmatt , Directed by Stamatis Chondrogiannis and performed at the “National Greek Theatre” in Athens. 3) “Souliotisses” Chorotheatre written by S. The latest album CD of the composer , has the title «The Rion -Antirrion BRIDGE» includes the music of the homonymous documentary and has been released at 5 June 1988.“
