'Shame You Don't Know' - Live @ Bojangles
..
Hailing from Salford, The Black Knights unleash their primal brand of trash/blues.The band are influenced by The White Stripes, The Black Keys, Queens of the Stone Age, and a host of other notable garage rock/garage rock revival groups.
The band's love/hate relationship creates a volatile sound, with darkly poetic lyrics set to raw, stripped back guitar and drums.
They are currently working on their forthcoming EP 'Parade of Piranhas', which will be released independently. The EP will be available in download format and as a limited edition Vinyl CD along with specially commissioned insert art inspired by each track.
‘We generally don’t get along on a personal level; most days I can’t stand to be in the same building as that fucker’ offers Thomas Richard Pickford III (Drums), ‘but when we come together as The Black Knights, the whole thing just gels. It turns me on’.
Gary L Hope (Vox/Guitar) is an enigmatic figure, holding both a degree in English Literature and a criminal conviction for assault.
‘The conviction thing happened a long time ago and it’s spent now. I’ve always had the easy going exterior but it’s tempered with something beneath, a sense of outrage’.
The Black Knights have received great press including full page spreads in the Manchester Evening News/City Life and the Bolton News, also securing a feature/interview in Sandman Magazine.
They have received airplay of their demo on a number stations including XFM & BBC6 Music, with an interview and session for BBC Introducing.
Their live shows are an unmissable experience and their energetic garage/blues style never fails to excite. Highlights including an exclusive instore at Zavvi Manchester (This stage has hosted the likes of Bloc Party, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Ash, Enter Shikari, The Courteeners, The Subways & The Cribs), performing at the Friends of Manchester Festival 2009 alongside The Longcut, Kid British & The Joy Formidable, to name but a few, and recently played a show for BBC Manchester Introducing. They have also supported The Hot Melts, To The Bones & Lissy Trullie.
Gary sums up: 'People leave our shows not knowing whether to fuck or fight; and that’s the response we expect'.
All hail The Black Knights.
