About Me
This is how it all started......Guillermo Mata Jr. is a 21 year old male from Brooklyn New York. He was born of Puerto Rican and Panamanian descent on February 3rd in a Brooklyn hospital. His nationality is Panamanian from his father?s side and Puerto Rican from his mother?s side.Guillermo?s father was not there to raise him, and as a result he grew up in a land of struggle along with his two sisters. Guillermo?s mother was not only a mother to him, she was also like a father. He found out how to be a man in the hard streets of Brooklyn New York, Guillermo Was raised in Puerto Rico And also attended school all the way to 5th grade.Guillermo was ultimately wise enough to stay away from the violence and gangs of his neighborhood, there were still times when he almost got involved with people who were connected to gang related activities.Fortunately, with the help and guidance of his idols he never became a part of that lifestyle. His idols are his mother, his two sisters, and his grandmother, who are all his best friends. He would say they are, ?the realist people alive?. Guillermo especially believes that his mother is an incredibly brilliant and independent woman. After watching his mother go through tough times, he learned many things about life and how hard it can be. In order to help his mother, Guillermo decided to take the initiative to get a job at a young age. It was not as successful as he intended for it to be, but being the supportive mother that she is, she still cherished, loved and appreciated the fact that he was working to help the family. As a child Guillermo never imagined that he would become a dancer. He was always drawn to the dancers he watched on television, such as the dancers from, ?In living color? and ?Soul Train?. This would later influence his decision to become a professional dancer. Due to Guillermo?s circumstances, his hopes of becoming a professional dancer seemed unattainable, until one day in Puerto Rico when he realized that he could make his dreams become a reality if he put his mind to it After watching the, ?Martin Lawrence Show?, Guillermo heard some amazing music come from his grandmothers living room. Then, he and his sisters started to sing and dance to the music. They even made up their own choreography to the mixture of salsa and hip hop. Since that day, dance has always been in Guillermo?s soul. As a result of his strong will and determination to succeed in dancing, Guillermo has decided to keep his focus in school. As a little boy Guillermo enjoyed playing sports such as basketball, football, boxing, track and swimming with his cousins. He excelled to his highest potential because of his athleticism.Over the years Guillermo has continued to build his dance skills in spite of having to overcome much adversity. To this day he still strives to improve his craft as he continues to struggle through hard times. He sees himself and his life as a continuing process and a work in progress. He studies and teaches at every opportunity he gets, so that he can be able to showcase his dance skills in the area's of ballet, jazz, funk, popping, boogaloo, and waving. Guillermo has trained very hard his whole life so that he can perform well in all of these aspects of dance.Guillermo started dancing in amateur shows and then worked his way up to the professional level. Throughout his life Guillermo has choreographed for commercials, tours, and Dance companies. He has learned how to incorporate the sports he played as a child into his dancing techniques when choreographing, which is one of the many things that make his style of dancing so unique. Many people who see Guillermo?s dancing for the first time have been quoted for saying things such as ?amazing, powerful and magical?, when describing his choreography. Guillermo?s dream is to simply be the best he can be as he continues on his journey to success in the music industry.
