Hello Everyone! My name is Miranda Holmes. I am the "Angel"/Coordinator for Northeast Texas and we are looking for other angels to represent other states and we also need volnteers to come on board locally here in Texas! I come from a family where child abuse has been prevalent. Luckily for me, I had very good parents, each of whom were victims of child abuse and so took the time to make sure that they were good parents. My mother grew up the oldest and only girl in a family of four. She was seven years older than her oldest brother. Her father was an alcoholic who refused to work. Her mother was left working two jobs most of the time in order to support the family. My mother was left to raise her brothers starting at age 7 and was often physically as well as verbally abused. She left the home at the very young age of 15. My father who was the middle child with five brothers and two sisters and was also son to an alcoholic father. He was physically, mentally, and verbally abusive to all eight children. My dad turned to drugs as a teenager as his way of refuge. Ten years later after much heartache and turmoil he as able to turn his life around. Although I personally was not a victim of child abuse, I have seen what it has done to so many in my family, some of whom are my age. I feel that I have a personal responsibility to make people aware of the effects of child abuse, and to help spread awareness so that child abuse can be prevented.
