MP2500 Microphone Preamplifier
The MP2500 is an extremely wide dynamic range 2-channel microphone preamplifier intended for demanding acoustic recording. Its clean, high gain design has an openness and fast transient capability that captures every detail of the acoustic source. The MP2500 provides controls for phantom power, input and output gain, mute, polarity inversion, and an input pad. The LED metering is appropriate for the application in that their main use is to ensure maximum signal to noise ratios while avoiding any clipping. This is especially helpful in today’s super-quiet recording studios to pick up the softest nuances of an instrument and the acoustic ambience.
Hand-built in the USA, the MP2500 microphone preamplifier is manufactured to the very highest quality standards. To ensure its superb performance, PMP Audio Works manufactures the MP2500 with only the highest quality components. It combines a precisely hand-matched set of 10 audio-grade, discrete, bipolar transistors with a line driver output stage from THAT Corp. The THAT Corp electronically balanced line driver behaves much like a transformer isolated output to eliminate interconnection noise in most cases.
PMP Audio Works spent a great deal of time on every detail. For example, the printed circuit board layout is designed as a “Straight Shot Signal Path.†The components that make up the various stages of each channel’s signal path are literally laid out to be an in-line, straight shot from the input to the output connector.,
This avoids signal or power traces from crossing each other (input to output, channel to channel, and voltage supply paths) and thus greatly reduces the potential for noise and crosstalk. Another example of an MP2500 design detail is using
Mogami cable to connect the convenient front panel, bantam TT jacks to their signal sources in the rear of the chassis.
Every MP2500 comes stock with Panasonic capacitors, 1% Panasonic metal film resistors,
and THAT Corp opamp line drivers. Every unit built must fall within strict tolerances through
a rigorous quality control process. This ensures the end user that if, years down the road, any more
MP2500s are added to the rack they will sound and perform the same as the original MP2500.
You can also customize your MP2500 preamplifier by selecting from your choice of component
parts. These include high quality aluminum electrolytic capacitors from Panasonic (standard)
or Rubycon, or one can choose metal film or silver mica from either manufacturer.
Output options include opamp line drivers from THAT Corp (standard), Burr Brown,
or Analog Devices. In addition the MP2500 can be outfitted with Cinemag input and
output transformers (Model MP2500T). Please specify your selections when ordering.

PMP Audio Works offers full documentation and pictures of your preamplifier being built
from start to finish. All test data is stored by serial number and can be requested by the customer.
