About Me

I've always loved to write, even attending college with the intention of becoming a newspaper journalist. Somewhere along the way life took an unexpected sideways turn, as it always seems to do, and my goal of writing words for a living took a back seat to other stuff.
Today, I'm happy to say that I consider myself a writer, even though I move airpanes around in the sky for a living - think of it as a really big Rubik's Cube - until I convince an agent and publisher (and, of course, readers) to see things my way.
My family comes first, always, and writing comes next, among the things I love. Thanks for checking out my Myspace, and if you love fiction, stop in and see me at www.allanleverone.com!

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

I suppose it's too late to meet Edgar Allen Poe or H.P. Lovecraft, and I've sort of already met Stephen King, having stood in line behind him at a video store in the mid-1980's in Bangor, Maine. I don't know if HE remembers it, but I certainly do.

One of my literary heroes is thriller author Lee Child, who I met last summer and who graciously signed a book for me. I would love to meet Lawrence Block, Tom Piccirilli and any of about a million other authors whose material I love.

Ten Things You Might Not Know About Me (Or Care)

10) I was born on a military base even though my parents were civilians. The hospital at Moore Army Airfield in Ayer, Massachusetts was the closest one to our little town in 1959, so I was literally "...

Dream a Twisted Dream of Me

I've mentioned this in the past, but things seem to move with glacial slowness in this writing gig. That's what makes the occurrence of this past few days so magical. I found out three or four days ag...

A Violent and Messy Miracle

I always find it amusing when some well-meaning soul talks about what a beautiful, life-affirming miracle childbirth is. I heard a lot of that stuff a couple of decades ago when my three children were...

A Little Less Crime and Suspense in the World

I think most people would agree that the less crime in the world, the better. Suspense might be a different story - everybody likes a little of that, if only to keep life interesting. But for a short s...

Gimme Back My Plot Twist!

It's not hard to imagine how silly it sounds to most people when I say that sometimes the characters in my stories surprise me with the things they do; in fact, it sounds kind of silly to me right now...

I'm a Derringer Finalist, I'm a Derringer Finalist...Is There an Echo In Here?

It never ceases to amaze me how subjective the business of writing is; especially when it comes to the business of fiction writing and getting published, both in the long form and the short form. What...

I'm Going to Hollywood! Sort of..

Okay, so there's no shiny stage inside a fancy theatre filled with adoring fans. There's no awesome band. There's no worldwide television audience in the hundreds of millions. There's no witty Ryan Se...

I'm a Quarterfinalist in Amazon's Breakthrough Novel Award Contest!

As an aspiring novelist, I've always felt that if I could just get a little exposure for my work, people would enjoy it and want to read more. I'm just guessing here, but I would imagine most writers ...
