The Terry Fox Run/Walk is held every year in September to honour the memory of Terry Fox, a great Canadian icon who persevered and defied the odds when he ran across Canada to raise money and awareness for cancer research. Terry lost his right leg after a tumor was found, and from then on he was determined to run to raise awareness and raise funds to find a cure for this disease. He began his Marathon of Hope on April 12, 1980 in St. John's, Newfoundland.
Terry sadly lost his battle with cancer on June 28, 1981, after running over 5,000 kilometres from St. John's to Thunder Bay, Ontario. We now commemorate his amazing action and determination by running, walking, biking, blading, every year in hundreds of cities across Canada and around the world.
This year, the Terry Fox Run/Walk is being held on September 13, 2009. The Stoney Creek event will be held at the Lakeland Centre at Confederation Park.
