Bleu Sturgeon
Bleu Sturgeon was spawned from the local Woodinville Washington Band FILF (publicly known as Acquired Taste NW).
The purpose of FILF was to rekindle the musical aspirations of a few has-been performers (Andy Morrison, Roger Dyksterhuis and Neil Sturgeon) and a never-been rock performer (Greg Sullivan). It was clear to all of us that getting Greg on stage and in front of an audience was worth dusting off equipment for, and something the universe was calling us to do. Andy sacrificed a bay in his garage and built the Maroon Womb. Neil bought equipment. Chops came back – took a while, the performing live itch was rekindled and we were back on the road touring all of east Woodinville with a vigor, practicing once a week and missing two practices a month. We were living the dream.
In the fervor of copying other people’s music and doing a half-assed job, it made sense to see if we could do a whole-assed job of our own songs. Neil had already poorly recorded ~100 songs, and Greg had a number of hits stored as grey matter. The first few were slow and painful but after that we added drama and tude to off-set the poor musicianship.
And, we had a blast doing it.
Bleu Sturgeon eventually became a Neil Sturgeon solo project, anchored in FILF- performed originals and expanded to include new songs by Neil with performances by other musicians.
