Welcome to Anthem For Change, a special initiative of ChromeOrange Music. We have supported Barack Obama from the day he announced his candidacy for the office of President of the United States of America. January 20, the day of President Obama's inauguration, marked more than just the beginning of a new era in American history. At Anthem For Change, we believe that January 20 marked our day of acknowledgment that God has spoken to us through a man named Barack Obama -- the "blessed one" -- about the need for change.
But, the change we need goes beyond the economy, healthcare and national security, because what most threatens our progress in those areas is our lack of community.
That's what needs to change.
We are the greatest nation on Earth, yet we rarely act in a manner befitting "the greatest nation on Earth." For years, we've been so busy being the source of our own undoing that we have forgotten that you don't get to be the greatest nation on Earth by making poor decisions that hurt scores of innocent people. You don't get to be the greatest nation on Earth by being greedy and by looking the other way when people in your own backyard are in need. You don't get to be the greatest nation on Earth by spewing hatred, ignorance and bigotry.
You get to be the greatest nation on Earth by being a community of people known as the citizens of the United States of America.
Being a community known as "citizens of the United States of America" comes with tremendous responsibility. As a community, we need to raise children who do the right thing, ensure that people can afford the things they need (beginning with adequate food, shelter and healthcare), provide opportunities for people to prosper and grow, provide help to OURSELVES and ONE ANOTHER in times of emergency, crisis, pain and depression, ensure that everyone has a safe place in which to live, improve education and the standards by which we assess our educational outcomes, and hold our heads up high with dignity, humility and grace.
But, above all else, as a community, we need to put SERVICE at the top of our "to do" list.
Barack Obama is the only president who has not only emphasized the importance of SERVICE, but who has also made service his way of life. And by service, we're referring to good works done solely for the sake of doing good work, not for oneself, but for others. Good work that benefits a community and ultimately a whole country. President Obama made service his way of life long before his actions and lifestyle were the subject of public scrutiny. As a Harvard Law School graduate, President Obama could have "written his own ticket" on the elite road to fame and fortune by taking a position of prestige in a high powered law firm. Instead, he made an impoverished Chicago community his home and his mission.
That mission?
CHANGE.
Barack Obama proved not only to that community, but also to the city of Chicago, the state of Illinois, the United States of America, and the world, that ONE VOICE -- one person -- CAN CREATE CHANGE. But of most importance, and the one thing that sets him apart from all other leaders, past and present, is that he proved it to GOD, who has once again called upon him to create change. He has answered that call, and so must we. On January 20, as a new era in American history began, President Obama began extending his stewardship and servant leadership to this country and to the world. In return, we, the citizens of the United States of America, must now take the ball from him and run with it -- from one person to another, all the way around the world, to every corner of the globe.
Anthem For Change is ready. Are you ready?
WE CAN DO THIS.
Remember, CHANGE IS ACTION POWERED BY LOVE.
