About Me
Melikah,born in Camaguey, Cuba, was born with a gift. This gift is evident through her vocals. At an early age, Melikah began her musical education through the studies of classical piano. She also explored her vocal training through her influence, which was Barbara Streisand, giving her the desire to sing at a Broadway level. During her junior high school years she would perform as a local vocalist on various talent shows. Throughout her high school years at Miami Coral Park Senior High, she continued to enhance her musical abilities by joining the drama team. This helped her to gain much artistic population.At the age of fifteen a friend introduced Melikah to Jazz. Falling in love with this type of musical genre made her venture out to study different Jazz vocalist, such as, Billie Holiday, Sarah Vaughn, and Diane Reeves, to mention a few. She then joined the Alpha and Omega church choir where she performed as a soloist in the church gospel youth group. Later, she eventually expanded unto the adult music ministry. In 1996, while ministering through music, Melikah met producer/songwriter, Fabio Gomez, Jr. Through him she worked with Jazz guitarist and songwriter, Carlos Gonzalez on a Christian project called, ‘Arpeggio Project’. This project exposed her voice through the Latin Christian airwaves, as well as, through the different congregations throughout South Florida.In the year 2000, Melikah attended Miami-Dade Community College where she received a high standard quality vocal and musical education, as well as theatrical general studies. She studied classical voice with successful New York, opera vocalist Eileen Duffy-Brown. She then decided to pass to the Jazz realm where she had musical training with such great musicians, such as, Felix Gomez, Mike Gerber, and Randy Tomassello, amongst others. She also studied Music Business, which led her to do her internship at Xtreme Music Studios, under the management of producer Oscar Lloyd from Sony Enterprise. There she met and worked with well-known producers, such as, Lewis Martinee of Pantera Music, (producer of Expose), Bebo Silvetti, (producer of Luis Miguel, Maggie Carle, and Daniela Romo, to mention a few), and Joe Granda of Protel Productions. This led her to receive an A.A. degree in April of 2002.Melikah has performed at different venues with acquired artist, such as, Jazz vocalist Nicole Henry, and with renowned percussionist Ignacio Nunez from the group, Los Bacilos and Josh Stone, as well as with renowned Cuban Jazz pianist, Paquito Echevarria. She has also performed with Oriente, led by Eddie Barzola. She worked with Robert Elias, in his project as a back-up vocalist. Also, she has worked with renowned Peruvian Jazz pianist Kike Sanchez in his educational video, 'Afro-Peruvian Rhythms', as well as with Dr. Donna Goldstein of, ‘Latin America Live’, teaching children of all ages of the different rhythms throughout Latin America.At this time, Melikah continues to expose her talent throughout South Florida. She is working on her solo project, which consists of Jazz, as well as Neo-Soul, and a touch of Afro-Cuban rhythms. Also, she teaches at Miami-Dade County Public School system where she tries to make the difference within the community by exposing students to root music.
