I've recently come to terms with the fact that I am in fact an alcoholic. The definition of alcoholism is basically a mental obsession of alcohol plus a physical allergy to alcohol. An allergy is an abnormal reaction. The only successful long term treatment currently known is spiritual growth. No one has done it as well as the men and women in the fellowship of "Alcoholics Anonymous". I can hear you thinking "dude that must suck" or some thing to that effect. Surprise, it's actually a gift. In order for an alcoholic to live a normal life sobriety must be maintained. Again I can understand the initial reaction. The thing is this is done by growing spiritually every day. An alcoholic with 10 years sobriety has the same glow as some ministers. Plus an inner joy and gratitude I've never seen before. The moment I realized that I felt blessed.
Currently I'm the happiest I've been in a long time, and every day seems better than the last. I'm becoming more involved with my church and family. For the first time in my life I know I'm growing to live a normal life at least. My marriage is strong and healthy. Simply put, my family and I are happy.
