Palestine has been occupied by the Israeli army since 1967. In 2002 the Israeli government began building a wall separating the occupied territories from Israel, much of it illegal under international law. It is controlled by a series of checkpoints and observation towers, stands three times the height of the Berlin Wall and will eventually run for over 700 Km.... Palestine is now the world's largest open-air prison.

The Wall around Qalqiliya -- a 25 foot high concrete cage that cuts residents off from their agricultural land, necessary for their survival, and prevents one from traveling even five minutes out of the city. A single gate, open at the whims of the occupying army, controls 100,000 residents.

And in paragraph 5 of its 19 October 2000 Resolution, the U.N. Human Rights Commission: "Also affirms that the deliberate and systematic killing of civilians and children by the Israeli occupying authorities constitutes a flagrant and grave violation of the right to life and also constitutes a crime against humanity;..." Article 68 of the United Nations Charter had expressly required the U.N.'s Economic and Social Council to "set up" this Commission "for the promotion of human rights."

Israel deliberately targeted civilian infrastructure and committed war crimes during the month-long conflict in Lebanon, according to an Amnesty International report. The report said strikes on civilian buildings and structures went beyond "collateral damage" and amounted to indiscriminate and disproportionate attacks under the Geneva conventions on the laws of war.

The atrocities of the Israeli military in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank directed against the Palestinian people are part of an ongoing process.
Recently, in the Gaza Strip, there has been an escalation of these atrocities.
In a bitter irony, this escalation of violence coincided with the U.S. President's arrival in Israel. This is the peace process that the White House, Tel Aviv, and the Arab regimes (the so-called "moderates") are talking about: death and destruction.
