Dance 4 Tibet: The Vision ..
Dance 4 Tibet is a fundraising organisation that stages not-for-profit dance events, spreading awareness and raising funds for the Tibetan struggle for freedom. We operate in peaceful opposition to the violent forces at work in Tibet. Our existence is an affirmation of the power of civil society and the transformative potential of music. Here at Dance 4 Tibet we, ‘drop beatz not bombz’ and dance for world peace. It is humanity's universal responsibility to act now. Our way is to dance, united in conciousness.
Our vision for Dance 4 Tibet is of a series of dance events, the first of which will be staged to coincide with the opening of the Beijing Olympics on the 8th of August 2008 and continuing until Tibet is free. This will include parties in London around the 10th of March 2009, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Tibetan uprising of 1959. We hope to attract a growing following to our events, and in turn, help to spread the word on Tibet.
About the Crisis in Tibet
Whilst most of us have heard vague rumours about a problem in Tibet very few of us are aware of the extent of the crisis. Since 1949 when Tibet was invaded by Communist China, Tibetans have been living in an increasingly hostile militarised environment where Tibetan cultural heritage is systematically destroyed and people are deprived of their human rights. Even Tibet’s fragile ecological balance is suffering irreplaceable loss and degradation, through mining, damming and the dumping of nuclear waste and chemicals.
At present Tibet’s future hangs in limbo. Those who resist the Chinese regime are punished without restraint, often tortured to death or subject to humiliating re-education. This dark situation amounts to nothing short of genocide. In the 59 years since the Chinese invasion over 1.2 million Tibetans have been killed. More than 6,000 monasteries have been destroyed. Over 111,000 Tibetans have fled Tibet. Many live in exile in India, Bhutan and Nepal.

Each event is organised in aid of a specific charity. Some of these organisations are listed below:
• Tibet Charity India
• FreeTibet.org
• The Tibetan People’s Uprising Movement
• Tibetan Refugees Self Help Centre, Darjeeling

About the Organisers
Having recently returned from a lengthy stay in India, during which they visited a number of Tibetan refugee communities across the country, the organisers of Dance 4 Tibet are on the Tibetan buzz and keen to spread the word. In Darjeeling, McLeod Ganj and Ladakh they furthered their education on the situation in Tibet, making friends with a number of remarkable lay Tibetans, monks and ex-political prisoners – all refugees fleeing from the brutal occupation of their country. The atmosphere in these communities is one of hope and great determination, a remarkable resilience sustained by the principles of Buddhist living. The organisers of Dance 4 Tibet wish to recreate this feeling of purpose and compassion among dance music lovers and to draw new faces and skills to the cause. We stand in solidarity with the peoples of Tibet!
