When formed in 2000, Autumn Twilight was categorised as a gothic doom metal band. Their debut demo EP, recorded in 2001, was popularised in a short tour in Hungary. Next year, driving to a gig, they had a pretty serious car accident; having recovered, in 2003 they went on another tour around the country. Marking the transition from one period in their musical history to another, they released their first album As Light Suffers Colours in 2004 which was characterised by the frequent use of acoustic guitars besides heavy, distorted riffs. After the subsequent tour the female vocalist departed, leaving a four-strong band to record a promo EP, named Crux, at the beginning of 2005.
Started off as a metal group, Autumn Twilight today has a somewhat clearer, more straightforward style, one very close to the old school gothic rock of the 80s, following the sound and spirit of the great bands of the era, which is well represented by the 2006 album, Dream Seeks Dreamer. The band's latest release is a 4-track EP entitled "Believe in Faith" (2009). Their music is characterised by elaborate melodies, intense atmosphere, placing guitars in a central position and ignoring the influence of electronic music in its entirety. They seek the guidance of such groups as Dead Can Dance, Lycia, Cocteau Twins, Fields of the Nephilim, Garden of Delight, Christian Death, The Sisters of Mercy and The Mission.
A number of their songs have been featured on compilations like Let the Hammer Fall, Shock, Gothica, Nightbreed DVD. Beside common gigs they are recurring participants of local festivals like Gothica and Nightbreed, have also played at Metal Mania, EFOTT, Sziget, Shock, and supported bands like Christian Death (USA), Samael (CH) and Flowing Tears (D).
Az Autumn Twilight 2000-ben alakult. Zenéjüket a sajtó ezidőben gothic doomként határozta meg. Örömtűz című debut EP-jük 2001-ben jelent meg, amelyet egy turné keretében mutattak be. 2002-ben súlyos autóbalesetet szenvedett a együttes, útban egy koncert felé. A sérülésekből való felépülést követően 2003-ban ismét turnéra indultak. 2004-ben látott napvilágot az As Light Suffers Colours című albumuk. Ezen az albumon keveredik a zenekar két zenei korszaka, a doomos gitárokat egyre többször váltják fel akusztikus részek. A lemezbemutató turnét követően az énekesnő távozott a zenekar soraiból, így a Crux címet viselő promo EP-t már négyes felállásban rögzítették.
A kezdeti időkben metalosabb hangzással bíró zenekar mára már letisztult, old school gothic rockot játszik a 80-as évek nagy gothic csapatai szellemében és hangzásában, amit jól példáz a szintén 2006-os Dream Seeks Dreamer című albumuk. Legutóbbi kiadványuk a 2009-ben megjelent Believe in Faith kislemez. Zenéjüket kidolgozott dallamok, intenzív hangulat és gitárcentrikusság jellemzi, mindenféle elektronikát mellőzve. Legnagyobb hatásaiknak olyan bandákat vallanak, mint a Dead Can Dance, Lycia, Cocteau Twins, Fields of the Nephilim, Garden of Delight, Christian Death, The Sisters of Mercy és a The Mission.
Több számuk is megjelent már különböző válogatás-albumokon, (pl.: Let the Hammer Fall, Shock, Gothica, Nightbreed DVD). Az állandó klubbulik mellett rendszeres fellépői a Gothica és a Nightbreed fesztiváloknak, de játszottak már a Metal Manián, az EFOTT-on, a Szigeten, a Shock-fesztiválon is, és előzenekaroskodtak olyan bandák előtt, mint a Christian Death (USA), a Samael (CH) és a Flowing Tears (D).
