Latin percussionist and endorsee of Kaman Music/Toca Percussion, Jocelyn Alvarez has immersed into and exciting and aggressive, young talented artist. She has developed great knowledge and ability to perform in the genre styles of: Latin jazz, Salsa, Hip-Hop, Neo-soul, Gospel and many more. Jocelyn's creativity and unending musical vocabulary has put her in a level of fine arts, and an invaluable team player.
_____________________________________Born and raised in the Bronx, NY. Jocelyn who is proud to be of Puerto Rican and Dominican descent has received musical instruction in piano, flute and vocals. Soon after realizing her passion was percussion, she then decided to further her musical education by focusing on hand percussion instruments.Tito Puente's former band orchestra leader Jose Madera, introduced Jocelyn to the Harbor Conservatory in Spanish Harlem, where she had the honor to study with great percussionists such as George Delgado, Johnny Almendra and Mauricio Herrera.As an independent Percussionist, Jocelyn actively performs in all dynamics of music performances of all genres. She has performed in Festivals, along side with DJ's, coffeehouses; to more formal settings like weddings, sweet 16s, Banquets, Corporate events in NorthFork Bank, and recently performed at Lincoln Centers Avery Fisher Hall with the Nyack School of music. Jocelyn is able to perform as solo artist or as a group.Jocelyn is currently pursing a BM at the Nyack School of Music, majoring in Music Performance/ Percussion, where she studies with professor Chris Hughes (Percussion) and Jon Werking (Jazz). Jocelyn is actively learning all aspects of music along with Music Theory. Ultimately, her goal is to continue performing and teach music.Jocelyn wants to encourage people to pursue their dreams in music by not letting anything stand in their way, whether its age or gender.
