Annie Dinerman is an award-winning singer-songwriter whose lyrics reveal a frank, funny and very female point of view. Downloads of all songs from her debut indie CD, 1,001 American Nights, can be purchased right here on this page. See Annie's SNOCAP store above, or click on the CDBaby.com link below. The CD and individual downloads are also available online. CLICK HERE to buy now at cdbaby.com or buy at Indiegate, a great resource for independent artists. Annie has completed recording her independent second CD, "Broken Cookies," with noted producer Steve Addabbo (Shawn Colvin, Suzanne Vega, Sonya Kitchell). Twelve songs have just been mastered. The CD will be released in the Spring of 2009. Downloads will be available online soon. Famed Folk photographer Robert Corwin shot the photos for the CD in early September. Please bookmark this page and come back soon to see these images! HEAR THREE SONGS RIGHT NOW (top right side of this page). Except for a newly recorded version of the audience favorite "One Planet At A Time," Annie wrote all 12 songs expressly for this CD, including the title tune, "Broken Cookies," a collaboration with producer Steve Addabbo. Addabbo plays lead guitar and bass on most of the songs. Other players include Denny McDermott (drums), Rex Benincasa (percussion), George Wurzbach (piano) and Tom Welsch (bass). Fans can expect more emotional lyrics, singing with an edgier, more immediate feel, and songs about what the singer/songwriter's been living through over this past year or so. Unemployment, the tension between a woman's desire for independence and the need for human intimacy, the urgency of saving our Environment and recovery from depression are some of the themes Dinerman tackles with humor and without frills. "I wanted to write and record songs about who I am now," Dinerman admits. "I wanted to write about what so many people are going through in this tough time. And I wanted to return to the intensity that was in my writing and singing when I was in my teens and didn't know how to hide."

Annie Dinerman received a grant in May 2007 from the Anna Sosenko Assist Trust. The grant was awarded to cover some studio expenses for her new CD, "Broken Cookies," produced by Steve Addabbo (see above). Anna Sosenko herself was a noted producer, composer and arranger. She is best known for the hit, “Darling Je Vous Aime Beaucoup”, which she wrote in 1935.
In 2006, Annie received the Abe Olman Scholarship for Excellence in Songwriting from Songwriters Hall of Fame. The award is given by the Songwriters Hall Of Fame to promising songwriters. Veteran hit songwriter Hal David of SHOF held a master class on that evening for about 25 songwriters. To see Annie talk with Hal, and to hear him reminisce about one of his earliest chart-topping hits, CLICK Video under Annie's photo (top left side of this page).
Annie's environmental song, "One Planet At A Time", was released on a compilation CD in December 2006 by The Public Domain Foundation, a project of Noel Paul Stookey (Peter, Paul and Mary). From over 170 submissions, 11 songs were chosen to appear on the CD which salutes songs of social concern. As a finalist, Ms. Dinerman sang “One Planet At A Time” as part of the prestigious Kerrville Folk Festival in Kerrville, Texas. You can listen to "One Planet At A Time" right now on this page, as produced by Steve Addabbo, with percussion by Rex Benincases. The song is a witty look at the cost to our planet when our tax dollars are spent in space. CLICK HERE to read about the 2006 Music To Life compilation CD. My Interests

Music:

Band Website: www.anniedinerman.com
Influences: These songs, among others, have probably influenced my writing: "Lazy" by Irving Berlin; "Goodbye Joe" by Laura Nyro; "Taking Stitches Out" by Wendy Waldman; "Sweet Baby James" by James Taylor; "Caroline No" and "God Only Knows" by Brian Wilson; "Song of Bernadette" by Jennifer Warnes and Leonard Cohen; "My Heart Is An Open Book" Words by Hal David and Music by Lee Pockriss
"Enough Rope", a book of poetry by Dorothy Parker, was given to me by my mother when I was about 10.
Sounds Like: Honest, unvarnished vocals, reminiscent of a young Carole King, are supported by acoustic guitar. Smart, heartfelt lyrics bring out all the fun of a very female writer's voice. Annie Dinerman follows in the footsteps of classic storytelling songwriters such as Paul Simon, Wendy Waldman and Laura Nyro.
Record Label: Blue Bird (indie)
Type of Label: Unsigned
