Small Scale Epic

When you signed onto Myspace today, I’m willing to bet that you had a bunch of friend requests from bands out there promising to love you if you just buy their EP, if you just buy a t-shirt, if you just give them some money. Please, give me a break. The music industry has turned countless musicians into greedy businessmen. Writing music isn’t about passion anymore; it’s about selling records, t-shirts and yourself.
Thankfully, some bands don’t follow the trend. Small Scale Epic, despite its successes, has managed to stay clear-minded throughout its two years together. They are focused on writing music rather than selling it. “Sure, we have to sell merchandise to pay the bills,” confessed drummer David Fish, “but in the end, we’re doing this for one reason and one reason only: we do this because we love to write music that we can be proud of.” Bands like Small Scale Epic have staying power because they love what they do, and they aren’t concerned with making money in the process. “If we were doing this to make money,” laughs lead vocalist Brian Bourke, “then we would have quit a long time ago. No, our only interest is in making music we love. We tell the stories of our lives through our music. If people like listening to these stories, well, that just makes everything worth it.”
