The Lindeans began at the end of 2006 with guitarist Tom Barton playing singer Kevin Young some songs he had been writing and recording at home. The pair had previously been lynch pins in the band Perfect Blue. This band had gigged extensively in Glasgow and Edinburgh in the late 90s, and recorded one album, Aesthetics in 2001. However, this wasn't simply Perfect Blue Mark 2: from the start it was clear that the song writing had developed, and the sound was something quite different. Kevin and Tom were also now taking on production duties, and this brought a new dimension to their sound.
The first E.P., "I Never Wanted You To Cry" was ready by January 2007. It was released on I-Tunes and has now been heard and sold all over the world.
A couple of months later they invited Tom Waring to join them on guitar. He had also played with Perfect Blue 1998-2000, as well as playing with funk/rock band The Wizards. Therefore he was able to bring some different influences and ideas to the band.
The tracks Always Remain and Try One More Time were soon completed. These have now been released as a limited edition E.P. by Cherry Echo, along with two of the tracks from "I Never Wanted You To Cry".
The trio have also played with a number of additional musicians, including a drummer, bassist and jazz saxophonist Ian Boyter. This last one produced some interesting results!
The latest release from The Lindeans is a double 'A' side single- 'About Nothing/It's Not Me'. Recorded, mixed and mastered at Rhelonie Recording Studios, it is perhaps their best offering yet.
Now new to the band is Ben Hardwick on bass. Ben also played with Perfect Blue throughout their career and things are looking more and more like a reunion! Mmmmmm.....
In the words of The Lindeans themselves.
“We aim purely and simply to write music from the heart and hopefully in doing so we can bring a little bit of musical pleasure to the world, well a lot!”
For the future.... There are quite a few new songs written, and recording is in progress. They are planning to release their debut album in the very near future.....Watch this space!
