Venture South

About Me

Formed in December 2007, Venture South is a Kent based blues-funk-rock band featuring Alex Newsome, James Gill & Rob Lee.
The band released their debut studio EP ‘Breath Of Fresh Air’ in January to critical acclaim, with the band reaching the final of Sound Clash 2009 with their song 'Blues For The Blues'.
The band are currently taking a short break followng promotion for the CD with airplay on radio stations as far and wide as the US, Canada, Holland and Australia, along with live dates including shows with acts such as Aynsley Lister, Eddie & The Hotrods and the Danny Giles Band.
Recording on their new album 'Extender' has recently finished and the band are currently mixing and finalising the CD. It features live favourites such as ‘Terra Firma’, ‘Feeling Fine ’and ‘Living For The Weekend’ and there are a few rough mixes and live versions of this new material here on our Myspace page and also on YouTube, along with some tracks from our last CD.
Review of the EP from 'The Gig Guide':
"Like The Blues Brothers for the 21st century, Venture South deliver their own version of funked up, blue-infused rock n' roll with this EP, and it certainlly is a breath of fresh air.
No matter if it's kicking and screaming, you can't help but be dragged in by the fast paced rock 'n' roll rifffs and the funky feel that keeps it fresh. I haven't yet had the opportunity to see Venture South play live, but I can imagine it being quite a show to behold!
Favourites on the EP would have to be 'Couldn't Stand The Weather' & 'Blues For The Blues', both of which have a strong blues feel.
If you're after something a bit different from the normal, or like the idea of something brought up to date with fresh twist, I highly recommend you try this EP. You won't be disappointed."
