Please note- all demo recordings were recorded by us in our practise room.......so just imagine what a studio recording will sound like!West of Hell was founded in West Auckland, New Zealand in March 2003. Lead guitarist Ivan Vrdoljak and drummer Andrew Hulme made a musical connection while hanging out and drinking at a local party spot.
Soon after, they began having jam sessions at Andrew's parents house, learning how to play their instruments, working on the fundamentals, writing riffs and finding a direction.
When about a year had passed, they found a second guitarist through Gary Smith and Brent Fox of 8 Foot Sativa. Sean Parkinson , their guitar tech, and Ivan were taking lessons with Brent and Gary respectively. knowing Ivan was looking for a second guitarest, Sean was suggested. A few phone calls later and a couple of jam session, it was decided that he would become the third member of the now forming band.
At the beginning of 2006, Andrew ran into Jordan Kemp , whom he recognized from school, though he had never known him. Numbers were traded, and months later after auditions with other bass players, Jordan was contacted and coaxed into the group.
With four contributing members, the sound of West of Hell began to take shape, and the three guitarists began studying with guitar master Sean Clancy. Their musical direction was found through influences such as Death, Pantera, Slayer, Metallica, Judas Priest, Tool and Lamb of God—all significant metal bands.
Throughout this time efforts have made to find a suitable vocalist, as it was agreed that the singer could make or break the band. In New Zealand to date, a vocalist has not been found, but the band had a growing craving to play live, and they decided that the music would hold its own.
A series of gigs at parties and clubs were well received, with much appreciation for the musicianship and energetic performances. However, West of Hell does not intend to remain a four-piece band, and with no fitting vocalists available in New Zealand, it was decided in 2007 to relocate overseas to broaden their musical horizons and find their fifth band member.
Currently, West of Hell is in the final stages of relocating to Vancouver, Canada and hopes to arrive by the end of 2008…!!! Start Code To Apply Top Banner !!!!
