The musician and Capoeirista; born Almir Jackson Ferreira da Silva on January 11, 1978 in Salvador,Bahia, Brazil, began his artistic career by the age of 18, mixing elements of the percussion and capoeira. His success is a result of years of self taught percussion and training with the International Group Capoeira Topazio. While studying classical acoustic guitar at the Federal University of Bahia, he began composing and performing new works. He has always been recognized by the resemblance to his indigenous heritage of the Native Brazilian Indians, and from there the artist "Indio Jackson" was born. 12 years of exposure to the artisitic scene has allowed Indio many opportunities performing as a percussionist, as a dancer and as a singer, all of which enabling him to evolve into the extraordinarily versitile musician of today. Indio had the honor of working with artists such as; Carlinhos Brown, performing in various venues and countries around the world, Zárabe Group, Timbalada, Marisa Monte, Bragaboys, Terra Samba, Swing do Pelô,Araketu, (Só no Sacode; the percussion group created by Meia Noite, percussionist of Sergio Mendes), Jimmy Ninja, Denim Deleon, Forossi and Carlos Madia, amongst many others. Indio has recorded tracks on various albums including "Omelete Man" by Carlinhos Brown and with the Bragaboys accompanying them on multiple National TV appearances, as well as performing in the film " El Milagro de Candeal." In 2003, Indio, incorporating his multiple talents and his love of a variety of musical genres, formed the group "Indio Jackson And The Tribo." After years of research, Indio Jackson has created a musical identity based on Afro-Brazilians, Latinos, and rhythm and blues. Ever the international figure, Indio called Japan home for a time, but now resides in South Florida doing his best to bring life to all of his artistic endeavors.
Indio Jackson And The Tribo was formed in 2003 and received its name by blending the artists birth name, nickname and by uniting English and Portuguese languages while honoring native Brazilian heritage. Indio felt a necessity to incorporate the influence that American music has had on him with his desire for the world to become familiar with his name, as English is the universal Language of the world. The group Indio Jackson And The Tribo values the Brazilian culture while mixing dance, capoeira and instruments such as berimbau being touched to produce a unique sound using a guitar effect. The musical repertoire includes original songs written by Indio, Brazilian Pop Music, Axé music, Bossa Nova, Capoeira, Latin music and R&B styles, as well as numerous international hits.
The distinctive sound of Indio Jackson And The Tribo illustrates the bands importance and presence in the industry. It is the groups intention to bring joy, entertainment and culture to the public, showing them that music can inspire them in every facet of life.
