LickGoldenSky - last show
LGS: 1999 (sort of) - 2004 (even though the video says 2005, who cares actually)
LickGoldenSky played their first show with CAVITY and played thier last show September 12th, 2005 with HOT CROSS, BREATHER RESIST, and COLISEUM. Formed initially around 1999, out of the love of bands like BUZZOV*EN , HEROIN , EYEHATEGOD , ANGEL HAIR , SOILENT GREEN , MINISTRY , GODFLESH , HONEYWELL , STICKY , HIS HERO IS GONE , ARAB ON RADAR , random power electronics , drop D tuning , and things of that nature, and ultimately fell apart on intial creation, due to to the first of what was to be many drummers. About a year later they finally found another line up, in what was the last line up of the 1999 ear of Turmoil, sans the vocalist, just switched around a bit with a returning vocalist, and bass player. Eventually, LGS would REALLY fall apart due to the ever changing musical landscape and a new found appreciation for YES , KING CRIMSON , touring endlessly, playing to 30 people a night for 6 months a year straight for 4 years, drugs , alcohol , internet message boards , lack of financial responsibility, constant van breakdowns, constant member changes, members of the opposite sex, and moving beyond the drop D "power chord" .
Over the duration of the band LGS had 4 1/2 drummers (who if I remember correctly were as follows: Brian Simmons (demo, 3 shows), Dana Fehr (songs of the dead comp, 0 shows), Mike Bowen
(aka Mikey B!, or El'Fucko to Lamb Of God fans, about 90 shows, enjoy terror),Harold Echols (the beautiful sounds of..., a few demo sessions, about 70 shows),Ian Myer (1 show),and lastly Eric Mcmanus (S/T record, Hot Cross split, a thousand shows).
3 guitar players: Jason Perdick (demo, enjoy terror about 12 shows),Johnathan Hodges (the beautiful sounds of..., around 60 shows) andJamie Getz (guitar on everything, as well as bass on the S/T record, about a million shows).
1 real bass player: Herb Jowett (every thing sans the S/T record, and about a half million shows)one real fill in: Josh Jakabowski(pulled double duty on about 50 shows and recorded the S/T record) and a very short fill in: Tom Razinski (about 8 shows).
2 1/2 singers: Robert Jurgenson (demo, songs of the dead comp., enjoy terror, around 70 shows) Keith Miller (about 12 shows) andAlexander Lesher (the beautiful sounds of..., S/T record, Hot Cross split 7", about a quarter million shows).
The band actually employed "roadies" at times (employ is used rather loosely let me remind you...), although most of these wound up just being extended hang outs, or a good excuse to run away from your life. Jonathan Ace(who did many of the first tours, and even went as far as to sit at Shark Bite Studios in Oakland CA, for a full week while the band recorded what was to be a scrapped LP, then flew home in San Diego a week later because the band was fighting so bad),Carla Bobrowicz(who punked out an entire tour with the Soilent Green's and was constantly being hit on by the late great guitar player, French Tony) andDouglas Foulke (who taught us about the Evasion book, got brought back to the van escorted by police on his first day with us, filmed many a show, and smoked a rather large quantity of pot. which probably explained why he never carried a single piece of gear in his whole life). Honorable mention goes to Denise Strohman who actually gave us money to get demo cassettes and would come along on MANY random weekend trips at the drop of a hat.
Quiet tumultious I know...but, when you go by the rule of Black Flag (get on board, get to work, or get the fuck out), things can be that way.
LGS had done about 12 US tours, 1 terrible (terrible as we hated each other, not the shows or the bands) Canadian tour, and 2 failed European tours. The band probably never went over too well with people due to the fact that they would play with anyone that they felt like. Which sounds great in theory, but really now...does a band like LGS need to be playing shows with Mortician ? Probably not. Over the span of the band, they toured with the following bands, FLOOR , HOT CROSS , THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER , KODAN ARMADA , BREATHER RESIST , COLISEUM , THEORY OF RUIN , CURSED , the awesomely hilarious dudes in SOILENT GREEN , and a few other I hated so much I won't mention them here. They also shared many a weekend run with MASTODON (and one of those many trips, I specifically remember playing inside of a Chinese Buffet of all places), BURNT BY THE SUN , DYSRHYTHMIA , ANODYNE , and probably many others that were forgotten about over time.
The band had 8 pieces of recorded output. The 5 song demo, 2 songs from that demo appeared on the 625 International Thrash Detonation Comp., a track on the Songs Of The Dead comp., the Enjoy Terror e.p., The Beautiful Sounds Of... l.p., the S/T l.p., a split 7" with Hot Cross, and two unreleased songs on the Level Plane Records "80 Records And We're Still Not Broke" comp. Lastly, the bootlegged 7" version of the demo, which the band is aware of and supports.
As of now the members play, or have played in the following bands.Get Fucked,Lords, Turmoil,Javelina , Snapcase, The Deadly, Versoma, Gods & Queens , Pusher, Kisses And Hugs, Nixon, Holy Bible, The Kiss Of Death, Digger, Air Conditioning, Yaphet Koto, Zodiak, Timmy, Encyclopedia Of American Traitors, and I think that may be it from what I can gather.
LGS records were on the following labels.
HAWTHORNE STREET RECORDS Enjoy Terror, Recorded by Jason Kanter at Big Blue Meanie Studios in Jersey City, NJ. 2000, or 2001 I think?
ESCAPE ARTIST RECORDS The Beautiful Sounds Of..., Recorded by Billy Anderson at Shark Bite Studios in Oakland, CA. Re-recorded by Mike Hill at Atomic Studios in Brooklyn, NY 2002 maybe?
LEVEL PLANE RECORDS Self Titled, Recorded By Josh Jakubowski at Cannon Road Studios, Freehold, NJ. 2004 or something close. LGS/Hot Cross split 7", recorded live at University Of Maryland radio station one random night on tour. Songs from the 80 Songs And We're Still Not Broke recorded by Steve...some kind of last name that's too hard to pronounce, at his studio that I forgot the name of. One song from that same comp., remixed by Jonathan Canady a.k.a., DEATHPILE.

My Interests

Music:

Band Members: Email, Eric Mcmanus if you'd like to talk about his stint in rehab, drumming, or about the one time Jamie ripped up $60.00 and thew it in the air on the way home from Baltimore to prove a point that Eric was a cheap, lazy retard.

Alexander Lesher is for once missing in action on the internet. I think the worlds are colliding. Maybe there is something to all this Mayan calendar stuff?

Email, Herb Jowett if you'd like to buy pot in the Philadelphia area, talk about his new band Javelina, have him house your stray cat or dog, or if you'd like to sit in silence at a bar and drink beer.

Email, Jamie Getz to tell him how utterly brilliant he is, how his sense of humor is always appropriate, how he never sticks his foot in his mouth, or how easy he is to get along with in a band setting! Or about his new band Gods & Queens.

Influences:

Taken from an interview with Mike D. Williams

Q: What do you think of the many bands, artists and zines you've inspired, in different genres, when you see or hear their stuff?

A: I think it’s a beautiful thing to have inspired such ugliness! It is a really cool thing and I am proud as piss to be a part of their worlds. I appreciate the bands that go the musical route and use the slow and heavy riffing, but I especially love when they are influenced by the art and lyrics but not so much our sounds. One case in point is the band LickGoldenSky. They got their name from some of my lyrics and their own lyrical style is kinda similar to my own, pretty cryptic and done in a stream-of-consciousness fashion. Their music is great as well, totally original and sick, but not a trace of EHG blatant plagiarism. I love to hear everyday about artists, writers, and musicians who’ve been influenced by EHG. That, to me, is the reason that makes playing in this band all worthwhile. - Mike Williams
Sounds Like: One irrational stubborn control freak, one ego posting on message boards, one drunk clueless drummer, and one very stoned older gentleman.
