Althea Hewitt, Artist/Songwriter, signed a lucrative three album deal with one of the world’s largest distributors of Jamaican recorded products, VP’s Records International (New York), Althea Hewitt’s debut album/CD “Introducing Althea Hewitt†has been released August 26, 2008 internationally.
Althea performed on Rebel Salute 2009 where she executed an excellent performance. She also went to New York where she performed at S.O.B night club in April where she was warmly received even though the weather was quite the opposite. This was her first performance in the big apple. Althea had the opportunity to perform at a few of the clubs, concerts and did interviews as part of a tour VP Records initially organized. She also did an album signing at the popular VP Record Store in Queens.
Althea is currently involved in a musical play which educates its audience about H.I.V., S.T.D’s and safer sex. The production team toured St. Vincent and the Grenadines in Febuary 2009. The play is called ‘Positive’ directed by Fabian Thomas and written by Trevor Rhone
In summer 2005 she performed in Cayman and January 2006 in Guyana alongside Pluto Shervington, Boris Gardener, Ernie Smith, Dwight Pinkney. Althea has had the opportunity to perform with some of Jamaica’s best musicians and in June 2005, she toured New Caledonia performing with Max Romeo and the Third World band.
Althea sang jazz and R&B at the Ritz-Carlton in Rose Hall, Montego Bay in Jamaica for a period of time. Because of her reputation for excellent performances, Althea was chosen by the Jamaica Tourist Board and the Jamaican embassy in Brussels to do a two and half week in Brussels, Belgium at the Le Meridien Hotel.
Althea has recorded for producers like Fattis Burrell, Grub Cooper, Dwight Pickney, Beres Hammond and Donovan Germaine. She was the first member of the popular female group 4th Street Sista. In the year 2001 the group won best performing artist award and a few years later she moved on to a solo career.
Althea performed in her father’s band long before her teens. She represented her high school, Camperdown in the Teen Star Search Competitions that took place during the 90’s.
