I'm Will Mayes, a 15 year old rapper, producer, writer and label CEO from East Grinstead in the south of England. I was born in Harlow, Essex on 10th June 1994. In 1998, when I was 4 years old, we moved to East Grinstead. As a kid, I never really listened to music, except Gorillaz (ha ha), but when I started at secondary school, I began to get interested in comedy music, from Ome Henk to Weird Al Yankovic. But then I found hip hop. My friend showed me Dr. Dre - The watcher and I was blown away.Within a couple of months I was buying hip hop records at the local music stores and had even started writing my own rhymes (even though at this stage they were completely rubbish). I also began entering local talent shows, and although making a fool of myself a few times, I learnt some important lessons. In about June 2007, me and the Muney Man (another East Grinstead rapper and life-long friend), agreed we should begin recording our stuff. We then spent a few months getting a collaboration album together. I wrote 8 of the 10 tracks on the album, and made the beats with the Ejay dance demo.We got round to recording the album, now called 'the struggle' in September 2007. We recorded all 10 tracks in about 3 hours, and this work was undoubtedly terrible, despite a couple of decent verses here and there. The album was never released, and the only two copies made are owned by The Muney Man and myself (I lost mine, dunno what he's done with his).Undaunted and determined to press on, I began writing new songs, using multi-rhymes and similies for the first time. For christmas 2007 I got a copy of hip hop Ejay, which was a huge help for the beats.By April 2008, I had an E.P. waiting to be recorded. I spent an afternoon at Furyous's house in Crawley Down. The E.P. was a lot better than the struggle, but I still mumbled and had a pretty bad flow.Still wanting to improve, I kept writing songs, but did no more recording until July 2008 when I recorded two more songs, 'Bring it back' feat. Furyous, and 'Coming up'. With these songs I then made a myspace and began internet promotion.Over the summer of 2008, I had at least a dozen songs recorded, and developed my production skills, making the beat for a track off of the Muney Man's Promo "Off the trail''. I was going to put all these tracks together in a mixtape, but scrapped the idea in favour of a two track promo, called 'Over the top' which was released on 1st September 2008. On the same day, I founded my own record label, Offenziv Wreckordz, and signed Furyous and The Muney Man.Over the top was the result of a year and a half of developing my skills, and I was very proud of it at the time. After the promo, I began making beats for my newly-created group, Glory Ladz, and more local rappers, like Militia and Lambo. Both of these rappers would end up signed to my label, even though Militia gave up music in January 2009.In the 6 month gap between September 2008 and March 2009, I focused on my production skills, making dozens of beats and worked on band stuff, particularly with Silent Response, which I would leave in May 2009. DJ Dolby, a rapper from Turners Hill, was invited to join Glory Ladz by the Muney Man.
With no new songs since september 2008, I released the promo E.P. 'Just an Underdog Stuck in a Meatgrinder' on 22nd January 2009. The E.P. was better than Over the top, but still lacked something. In March 2009, I began work on my most ambitious project up to that point, Victory Volume I, which was meant to be the first in a series of free promotional E.P.s. Volume I was released on 1st June 2009. However, after the E.P. recieved few downloads and recognising its flaws, I took a different direction and decided that instead of continuing with the series I would begin working on songs one at a time, and my first music videos.
