About Me

Big Up to all the California Massive! I just touch down in San Diego, this is my home base from here forth. I'm looking forward to the vibes! I just come from Albuquerque New Mexico where I reside for a while. Must say the New Mexico people treat me well. Nuff cultural vibes a gwan with the people in the mountains and valleys of the southwest. Big up to my bredren all over the southwest! I will miss you! I'm a Mexican born yute, grown in El Paso, TX where I catch the Dancehall Reggae bug back in 1989 when my bredren Danny introduce me to some NY, Jamaican youths bustin the latest dancehall of the time: Supercat, Shabba, Ninajman, Tenor Shaw, Barrington, Buju and others. From there I was hooked! It took a few years for me to learn a little more about the music and the culture like many yutes are learning today, to a greater extent due to the technological advances that have created a worldwide culture of Reggae music. In 1998 I moved out of El Paso and got to experience a cultural integration with many people from across the country and the world. I must say this was the best eye opening experience that I wish more of us would have the opportunity to experience. It really gives people an opportunity to look outside of our small communities, whether we are from a small town or a big city. We all tend to stick with people that come from the same backgrounds and beliefs. Only when we step outta dat livity do we get to realize that people from all over the world experience the same struggles in all communities. This is the unity of Reggae music! In 1999, I started recording music with my bredren Mr. Blaze from NY. Soon after we link up with Ali, a Guyanese bredren by the way of Queens, NY. By late 2000 we had recorded over 30 solid tunes. Most of them dancehall tunes which formed the Empire Soundz Crew lead by Ali. Soon after we parted ways and I end up in Albuquerque, NM. There I link up with German/New Mexican reggae pioneer Don Martin, who was like a mentor to me and others in the community. Don Martin, with his Brotherhood Sound System, (2005) was running a steady session at Burt's Tiki Lounge in Albuquerque. There he let me sharpen my MC'ing skills. I performed some of my tunes longside one of the sound system selectors, Mr. Kali, who also performed at the shows. In August, 2007 Mr. Kali link me up to back him up in the Santa Fe Musik Festival which featured about 100 worldwide artists during the three day festival. Some of the artists included Burning Spear, Public Enemy, Wu-Tang Clan, Collie Budz, War, George Clinton, Everclear and many more artists. This was truly an experience and the music EXPLODED from here on! In late 2007 and early 2008 I performed many shows with Mr. Kali in Albuquerque and Santa Fe, NM. From here on we built a solid fan base which led to many sucessful shows in the area culminating with a spring tour with with legendary Jamaican pioneer, Original General Smiley. In this tour we touched down in El Paso, Austin, Albuquerque, Denver(featuring ARMY from V.I.), Salt Lake City, and Durango, CO. After this tour Mr. Kali and Sgt. Remo were highly requested throughout the southwest. We performed almost weekly in Albuquerque, Santa Fe, and a few shows in El Paso, TX, including opening for St. Lucia Reggae artist Taj Weeks. I must admit, he's one of the most under-rated artists in the touring circuit- The MAN is BAD! 2008 ended with many shows in the New Mexico area. Sadly this was the end of the regular shows for Mr. Kali & Sgt. Remo. I know the New Mexico massive will miss the vibes but I promise to come forward SOON! So from here forth, I'm here in CA looking forward to working with all the positive people that make up the cultural scene in the area and recording/performing as much positive music as possible in these times. If you are an artist/producer/reggae fan, hail me up! Mi want hear from ouno! Bless! Sgt. Remo
