About Me

Well, to start at the beginning, I was born at the town called Capelle aan den IJssel, situated under the shadow-casting smoke of Rotterdam. Have been living there since. My parents called me Monique back then, but friends and they themselves too have reduced it to the easier and, more important, faster pronouncable 'Mo'. So that is what you may call me, if you like :) At the moment I study in the city of Utrecht as a student of Celtic Langauges & Culture. So I get to learn Gaelic and Welsh and read marvellous myths for homework! It's such a pleasure, because I get to combine my interests and study in the overlarge part of my life. :) Recently, I've made the decision to try and fulfill the dream of becoming a professional singer/musician. An ambitious wish, but why not? ;) Therefore, I just started attending singing lessons from a very sweet lady, Jacoba Dilg. Also, since some months I've joined the Utrecht female student choir Medusa. Never thought I would ever find myself in a choir, but there you are. After all, life is full of (pleasant) surprises! ;) As for my nickname 'Rúa', there's a nice little story behind it. On our anual trip to a Celtic country, we visited Ireland this spring. Wanting to see the area around Galway, we took a bus-trip (just like normal people :p) with the best guide imaginable: Desmond. He was an authentic old Irishman, full of local anecdotes. One of those told us the tale of ruthless Moira, a beautiful woman who murdered her husbands for their possessions. The people called her Rúa, for she had lovely red hair. Since I seemed to be the most convincing redhead, the comparison was easily made. But I get carried away again. This is my current life in a nutshell. Hope it reveals a little about me!
