I'm a Deputy Sheriff here in Los Angeles, California. My partners and I run a law enforcement racing education program called Team Sheriff Racing.
Founded in 1993, we were the first program of our kind in the nation. Since then, we've spoken to thousands of kids across the West Coast. We're a Non-Profit Organization staffed by Deputy Sheriffs. Our goal is to educate children about the dangers of gangs and drugs, along with the benefits and importance of education. We take our race vehicles to schools, community events, industry events, and just about anywhere else where we can reach out to kids, and use the vehicles as a way to catch their attention and break the ice.
In addition to our day jobs as professional crime fighters, we run this program on our own time. I road race motorcycles (or at least try to have a good time doing it!), while my partners race drag cars on the NHRA circuit.
We also do a lot of work to educate teenage street racers about the dangers and consequences of street racing, as well as impaired driving. We organize events at local racetracks to get them out on the track and off the streets.
