Vampire Magazine existed for two issues as a printed zine in the Dutch language. In 2000, Ricardo realised that the way forward lay in two keys changes: switching to the English language and going online. Thus vampire-magazine.com was born. From humble beginnings a massive concentration of information, articles and features was spawned, quickly transforming the zine into something of a one-stop shop for metal information. High readership statistics and complimentary feedback from both bands and labels spurred the crew to new heights.
In 2008, shortly after the 10th anniversary of the zine, Ricardo decided to step down as Chief Editor for personal reasons, and in fact left the crew entirely. Although he is missed, his boots are more than amply filled by the inimitable Ron Salden, who has been with the zine almost from the beginning. He re-branded as ARCHAIC MAGAZINE and set about streamlining the site and its procedures. Since the summer of 08, Archaic has weathered the inevitable storms of change, but has maintained its reputation for delivering incisive, valuable comment on all that occurs in the metal scene, both underground and mainstream (and boy can we argue amongst ourselves about what constitutes mainstream…. ;-p).
Crew members come and go (and come again, in many cases), trends and tastes change, bands split up and reunite with enough frequency to give any self-respecting metal journo a headache, but AM forges on: 2009 promises to be a Renaissance for Archaic Magazine… you ain’t seen nothing yet.
