About Me

Music and art are the things the drive Jimmy Blakley . . . Musician, recording artist, recording producer, television producer, Photoshop artist for a national magazine, creative director, song writer, composer, author, and retired old phart are just some of the hats he has worn in his career. His parents, Rockabilly Hall of Fame members Jimmy and Dorothy Blakley, aunts and uncles, brother and sister, were all professional musicians. At the age of six he began taking violin lessons. “Dad wanted me to be a serious violinist instead of a fiddle player, but I wanted to be a drummer. Got my wish in1956 when I was 12 , Dad put me to work with him and Mom playing drums and bass at Scotty’s Club in Roswell. . . . Got paid $20 a week, but I still had to take violin lessons.”Jimmy traveled for years across the USA with road bands; and recording artists Webb Pierce, Tommy Duncan, The Maddox Brothers and Rose, Faron Young, Rick Marlow, and Little Joe Carson. He started his own band in the early seventies. In the early 80's he founded the Warhorse Band. During these times Jimmy also produced graphics and artworks through-out the Southwest for record labels, Album covers, bands, and the 1982 Austin Phone Book Cover. In the middle eighties, Jimmy decided he needed a change in life, and began a new career as computer graphics artist at KFDA-TV in Amarillo, then as Creative Director at KLBK-TV in Lubbock. During his tenure at these stations he won several Addy Awards for his works. He was Video Producer for a syndicated, award winning music program called “West Texas”. The program was also chosen to air on Willie Nelson’s ill-fated “Cowboy Network” just before the network was shut down by the IRS.Even though Jimmy retired in 1997 due to illness, he remains active composing, playing, and recording music in his home studio. Thanks to Tommy Joe and Mark Fisher he plays his fiddle again at the Fisher Jam Hole, also with the BentWood Rockers. He lives near New Home, Texas, with dear wife, Sheila, and son, Caul.
