Welcome to the Shades of Green official myspace page! Shades of Green is an acoustic project that has taken the south by storm! Elise Thornton, Meagan May, and Bradley Meyer make up this awesome acoustic jam band, performing a set list that is jam packed with the best 70's, 80's and 90's covers and a rapidly growing set list of originals!Elise started performing live music in 2003 as a guitarist for a band called So I Thought, based out of Bogalusa Louisiana. They played and performed a variety of punk/emo songs and several originals written by Charlie Heddon, lead singer/guitarist of the band for about a year around southern LA.In 2006 she met another local singer/songwriter named Karen Waldrup from Mandeville Louisiana. They played and wrote together for about a year while recording music as a duet and having a blast playing together. Elise played lead guitar and the two girls shared the roles of lead and backup vocalists, experimenting with different types of harmonies and creating their own unique vocal structures. They played their first show at The Howlin Wolf in New Orleans, LA. Their first show in Mississippi was later booked as duet "SHADES OF GREEN" at Mugshots Bar and Grill in Hattiesburg, MS. Each gig they played opened new opportunities to play at different venues all across the southern parts of Louisiana and Mississippi. While taking a full load of classes, working and managing their social lives, Shades of Green played over 250 gigs and sold over 1000 cds. They completely marketed themselves in the college town and helped some of the local bars get their "Biggest Nights Ever". They had a blast and grew so much as artists from the experience and through their friendship. Shades of Green became a local Hattiesburg regular and The University of Southern Mississippi later featured them in the newspaper. In 2008 Karen graduated from USM and obtained a marketing job in Nashville, TN. She currently resides there and is working super hard to establish a name for herself as a solo country artist. She is doing a fabulous job and we are all so excited for her!! You are always in our thoughts, hearts, and prayers, Karen. :-)Meagan May stepped in as Karen's replacement during the summer of 2008. Her presence in the band has been a great blessing! We have come so much further together and are loving every day and moment growing together as musicians, songwriters, performers, and loving friends. We are currently all working together writing and recording a new original album and will be distributing it very soon!!We am having such a blast perfoming for all of you. We can't thank you enough for all of your support and encouragement! All our Love!! -Shades of Green

Influences:There have been so many amazing musical influences in my life... I was raised on old school rock and blues like Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin, but as I have grown older I have discovered that there isn't much in the way of music that I don't like. I love classic and hard rock.Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, Chilli Peppers, TOOL, A Perfect Circle, Nine Inch Nails, Apocalyptica, The Mars Volta, Jane's Addiction, Sevendust, Sublime, Family Force Five, Dream Theatre, Red, Coheed and Cambria, Theory of a Deadman, Acid Bath, Acid King, Pelican, Pantera, Crossfade, Failure, Bush, Rage Against the Machine, The Exies, Queens of the Stone Age, High On Fire, Mastadon, BLS, STP, Cake, Coldplay, Tenacious D, Cold, Faith No More, Elliot Smith, Incubus, Three Days Grace, Weezer, Live, Splender, Smile Empty Soul, Bright Red Paper, Aerosmith, Something Corporate, Isis, Queen, System of a Down, Jewel, Sarah McLaughlin, The Cranberries, Evan's Blue, Benjamin, Journey, Marcy Playground, The Flies, Flyleaf, Pink Flloyd, The Mamas and Papas, No Doubt, and all gals with gorgeous voices despite the pop persona, for example, Kelly Clarkson, Avril Lavigne, Michelle Branch, Hillary Duff, etc. Lots more but nothing whiny.
Sounds Like: My greatest songwriting and vocal influences have been from many different genres... Heart, Jewel, Alanis Morissette, The Cranberries, and Alison Krauss are my favorites. :-) Jerry Cantrell of Alice in Chains has been my greatest influence as a guitarist.
