You are listening to the piano music written by Edmundo Villani-Côrtes and performed by Luciana Hamond. She was awarded a master’s degree in music for her thesis entitled “Preludes for Solo Piano by Edmundo Villani-Côrtes: a Technical and Interpretive Study†in Rio de Janeiro. She has just finished to record her first CD entirely dedicated to the work for solo piano by Brazilian composer Edmundo Villani-Côrtes. The CD will be launched in 2009.

A native of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Luciana Hamond began studying piano at a young age. She obtained a degree in piano from the Federal University of the State of Rio de Janeiro (UNIRIO), under the orientation of Ruth Serrão, and is a Licentiate in Music of the Brazilian Conservatory of Music (CBM).******************************************************
********Hamond has studied under distinguished Brazilian teachers Kátia Balloussier, Linda Bustani, Luiz Senise e Estela Caldi and taken part in numerous master classes taught by internationally-renowned pianists such as Rudolph Kehrer, Peter Eicher, Ludmila Lazar, Fany Solter, Bernhard Wetz, Lorna Griffitt, Luis Carlos de Moura Castro, Arnaldo Cohen and Gilberto Tinetti. Since 1998, when she successfully competed in a national piano competition, Hamond has performed in recitals of chamber and Brazilian music along with Aline Silveira (flute), Angelica Alves (violin), Claudia Grosso (cello), Fernando Gualda (oboe), Leandro Lobo (French horn), Francisco Sá (flute) e Luis Cláudio Soares (trombone).*************************************************
*************She joined the Symphonic Orchestra of the Municipal Theatre of Rio de Janeiro as pianist for the show Floresta Amazônica 2000, commemorating the 500th anniversary of the discovery of Brazil, with music by Heitor Villa-Lobos, under the direction of conductor Henrique Morelembaum. She worked as accompanist for the play Somos Irmãs, about the life of the Batista sisters, singers of Carnaval samba in the 1940s and 50s, the golden age of Brazilian radio, under the direction of Ney Matogrosso, Leandro Braga and Cininha de Paula. She has also participated in various recordings produced by the Globo television network, including the mini-series Chiquinha Gonzaga (1999), inspired by the life and work of the Brazilian composer of the same name and directed by Jayme Monjardim, working as actress Gabriela Duarte’s piano double.
