Adam has been writing and producing songs in the Pop/R&B/Rock market since 2002. Signed to a production deal with Michael Jackson and J-lo’s writing team he began his career in music thinking of it solely as a way to get out his poetry. After working with several top producers they encouraged him to become an artist because of his clear character and melodic imagery. Adam at this point time never looked at himself as a musician or singer but just as a poet. After taking his mentors advice he submitted himself in a national songwriting contest for BBDO Chicago (a top ad agency looking for jingles) and in 2004 his jingles were being heard all over the U.S. After that came another competition on MTV for Singer/Songwriters called “Score†produced by Joe Simpson which he won and another on ABC called “THE ONE : making of a music star†which he and 9 others had beat out 10,000 contestants in a spot for a record deal with Interscope until the show was cancelled due to ratings.
The son of Black Scottish, American Indian and Russian parents, Adam was raised in Manhattan Ny. After attending the University of Central Florida where he majored in script and film writing, he left and headed to Los Angeles to pursue his career in writing. All the while taking various jobs like a Karate instructor and Actor. After some time, he began writing songs for up and coming artists signed to indie and major labels. While also engineering a Bob Marley tribute album and singing on a Bob Dylan tribute album. That’s when he met a studio owner in 2004 that needed help building a commercial property. Adam made a trade that he would help build the facility in exchange for free studio time. Not only did Adam learn to record, engineer, sing, and play here he also ran there marketing department as well as drafting contracts with the artists they worked with. It was then that Adam realized he could pursue a solo artist’s career, with the knowledge and experience he learned from working behind the scenes he set off to do just that.
While working as a musical director at an esteemed summer music camp. Adam became an emerging talent showcasing at each weeks end his new solo material. After word spread of his unique style many of the parents began hiring Adam to write and produce songs for there children. Being thrown into a new life by working with families such as Tommy Hilfiger, Leeza Gibbons, Bruce and Demi Moore he enjoyed dedicating his time to others but also yearned more so now to follow his heart and focus on recording his own work. In 2005 he met the Serra’s, an amazingly talented family with two children that attended Adam’s classes. After recording an Ep for Mandy Serra, Adam and the family became more than employee and employer but friends. In May of 2006 Adam and the Serra’s started a music production company in Austin Texas focusing on recording and promoting himself and soon to be other future top artists.
In today’s music it’s rare to find an artist who has a completely distinct voice, melodic sense, and wide versatility. Adam McInnis is one of those artists and one that will be around for many years to come. Whether its acoustic soul, rock, or reggae his wide range of writing and playing styles will be here to last. His presence and strong character have had music magazines and producers note him as being a young Sting, Seal, Marley, and or Cat Stevens.
